I think firstly a good implementation would be, before you can even play comp mode, or buy a comp pass, you must pass a stress test to see if your computer can even load up the maps and such in a timely manner.
I think the biggest hinderence to comp mode is the frequent abandons. Ya'lls thoughts
In the same vein, Valve should fix the queuing bug(s), reevaluate the configuration restrictions and improve the player replacements before the start of the match.
class limitations would be great
3 demo 3 medic meta isnt fair at all
Bots are awful (except medic, maybe) and shouldn't taunt after any kill.
Really, it's just a cvar.
Comp lobbies shouldn't be dismissed if a player abandons before the match starts. The GC should get players on teams where one person is missing in order to play the match and avoid looking for another one for 20 more minutes.
A Sniper bot on Viaduct can sometimes shutdown an uncoordinated entire team. Meanwhile the regular medic bots can get in the way and lose their über progress by dying. Bots which shoot projectiles occassionally land airshots much to everyone's amusement as well so not all of them are awful, just mediocre at worst against human opponents.
IMO the reason why there are so many abandons before the match, is the fact they probably use fps configs to make the game playable, and since comp enforces settings, they get bad fps, and it takes them a lot of itme to load the game because of it (since settings are changed just before you get into loading screen) - so absolutely, valve should stop enforcing their own settings on players
Another reason is that they could get a bug of some sorts, where they get a message saying about that "ad-hoc connections aren't allowed", though we don't know for sure how common that bug is
Also aside from that, i'd like to see map list for comp, where i can choose which maps i want to play in comp - though i can see the reason as to why it isn't a thing, nobody in right mind would play 6v6 ctf or PL, so they force everyone to play those modes, but they want to improve PL/CTF and need some data, and if nobody plays them, they don't get their data
I just want an option to play Highlander rather than 6v6.
I know everyone loves Sixes, but I main Heavy; it just feels like they're cutting out a huge portion of the game by adhering to a game mode with such a strict meta.
Let people play 6v6 if they want, but also offer the option to choose a gamemode where classes like Spy and Engineer are actually viable, so we can get the full TF2 experience in a competitive environment (rather than just Scout/Soldier/Demo/Medic over and over and over again).
i think a big reason they cant do highlander atm is because there's not a big enough playerbase to support it.
I do hope spy and engi and even heavy get tweaked enough that they can manage in a comp enviroment. I feel maybe in 5cp this is the case where they are shut out, but ctf and attack/defend i feel offer these roles a chance. They just need to tweak these modes for 6s and it should be fine. We're getting there, and i think all classes being vital is the direction they are going.
I feel like that adding HL would fragment the already small comp playerbase - not to mention that matchmaker takes long to match 6v6 people, yet alone 9v9 - they can solve this by balancing classes better so they work and are fun to play with in 6v6, or we can hope that comp mode gains enough popularity (and with that goes the player numbers), that adding HL would make sense, while also not making queuing for HL a long process
I think I'd agree with this, along with other reasons. They need their competitive scene to just get popular first before venturing into other territories...
They're also going to have to figure out how to handle setting up a 1 per class rule as well... Probably having people pick a class before queuing up and it'll look for parties that lack a specific class.
