Pretty sad to see what happened with MvCI.
I think Marvel was a key player in the downfall of this game, tbh.
So many letdowns and hiccups.
A lot of potential that went to waste.
And it doesn't help that there is this stigma about the game or liking stuff in general lately. You either like it or not, no grey area for some. It's become stupid these last few months.
Not to mention, Max was sent death threats over the opinion he expressed in this video.
People have become so fucking shitty lately.
to an extent I can understand the feeling, being a fan of sonic mysef.
It honestly really hurts seeing Max in this state. I remember back when the reveal trailer for MvC:I dropped back in PSX 2016, and Max put up his reaction video to him freaking the fuck out over that and UMvC3 on PS4. I think that was the purest form of joy and excitement I had ever seen. Now we're a year and a half after that and he's a shell of his former self, emotionally. MvC is such a huge and important series to a lot of fighting game fans, so outside of all the memes and shit on the internet, I could feel that fans were genuinely saddened by what the series had become.
MvCI is really fun and fun to watch, but man it's really ugly.
the hate machine that MvCI caused, while based on actual concern, its really absurd. I've following max for a while and noticed how he singlehandledly became a figure in the FGC scene people seems to really love him or hate him for the most ridicoulous reasons, specially when he's the most dedicated dude in the entire YT community.
you'd think that someone who spends so much towards improving his own work and to try to be as profesional as posible to not only deliver content in crisp 4k60fps on youtube and dedicate analysis and videos to help people get introduced in the FGC scene of a couple of popular games wouldn't be called out for... doing exactly that.
Scapegoat is the only viable answer I can find for this.
They hate something so much, despite being told that there is good in it and proven wrong about their "it's absolute trash game" opinion, they need someone to channel their anger because they can't be responsible enough to accept the fact they're wrong to an extent.
What better way to do so than a public figure. People always try to find the easiest way to channel their pitiful reason to be angry, just like electricity does.
Except some short circuit and go fully stupid by sending death threats. I think someone found the edgelord who could've possibly sent them and apparently, after Max's tweet, started regretting and trying to apologize.
Too little, too late. Dude's getting what's coming to him (and others if there are others).
Another thing that I respect Max for is that he never brought any attention to the threats in last night's steam at all, despite most of the chat sometimes bringing it up. He just wanted to play Monster Hunter and he did just that. I can only imagine how stressed he must've been for his wife and himself.
Real or not, death threats are scary.
People going as far as death threats toward someone's opinion on a fucking fighting video game? really?
It's far from the worst i've seen (Totalbiscuit is a good example, though that's a cautious topic to approach), and the fighting game community is one of the most condensed groups of conflict in the gaming community. So many options, so many games, so many characters, and at least one person out there that wants you to go fall off a cliff and die if you get your name known because you contrast their opinion about something.
Why is the Nickleback man mad about the soyboy game mummy?
Honestly, the hate machine extends far beyond Max, and at times feels like it covers anything having to do with Capcom.
and for good reason. Capcom singlehandledly shit his entire 2017, sans for maybe RE7. people was specially angry given that MvC its not only a game with a long, loong cult following behind it, but also because it was literally an event that one things like smash bros could rival. MvCi was just a sad collection of awful PR, awful development, awful comunication, poor choices and overall terrible presentation - wich in turn was solely caused by people that should not take decisions taking decisions.
capcom execs bet really hard on MvCi(proof of that ar ethe statues that came not long ago, that pretty much no one is going to buy) and i bet a shitload of money was burned towards the service platform that was going tobe MvCI, except for the fact that the plan about it going strong just because your strong fanbase will buy and support it anyway only works with nintendo and sega.
