A thread for speculating on who the next hero could be, or sharing your own ideas for what could be a cool hero current popular suggestions for the next hero: Sven Hammond Dr. Harold Winston Maximilien Sanjay Korpal some common fps weapons that haven't been used as a basis for an overwatch hero yet include: -flamethrower -crossbow -pump shotgun What do you guys think? I'm kind of hoping we get Sanjay in the near future because I'm really interested in how a more offensive-based kit could utilize hard light tech
I've always thought that a hero who can morph themselves into a liquid state to take advantage of speed would be cool if they could pull it off. Think the Inklings in Splatoon for example, and how they have a Squid form that allows them to swim in their own color ink fast.
oh man, I knew I had forgotten someone big. It seems a bit odd to me though that they would have 3 representatives from one country before adding a second to any others, though.
We also still have that cryptic greek hero (Ares?). Personally I want a Xenomorph/Hunter like hero that can crawl on walls and ceilings. This will probably never happen because it's confusing as hell to spectate, but I think you could do some cool shenanigans with it. Similarly, a more RTS oriented hero like Abathur in HOTS would be amazing, but again, probably not something most are very excited about. Regarding the weapons: I think it would be more interesting to look at what kind of MOBA archetypes we don't have yet, since that is what many heroes are based on. I don't play MOBA's though, so maybe someone else has any ideas?
I also managed to forget Athena, who has loads of concept art, but since she's the game's main announcer they may have decided not to use her as a playable character. as far as MOBA archetypes go, the one I thought we were really missing for a while was Tanky Support, which we just got in the form of Brigitte. I've only played HotS and Dota 2 but I can't think of a whole lot of acrchetypes that directly translate into a shooter based game, especially since there is no distinction between magical/physical damage in Overwatch and there's only so many way a melee hero can be done (as opposed to a Moba where typically around half of the cast is melee)
One thing I think would be a cool addition to this game, and it's something people theorize Sanjay might have with his light suit is sort of a "meat shield" kit. Basically a tank that can link himself to allies and reduce the damage they take from all sources, while also taking damage in the process. Also if you don't know what I mean by light suit: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f5/7f/52/f57f52a8c313861dc3b608317857a10e.png People also theorize the suit behind this shot of the team is Sanjay's, a sort of light armor suit similar to Symmetra's light gadgets.
That one heavy trooper with the miniguns would make for a cool hero, always wanted a tank that was just full on assault and has staying power.
i really want tf2 pyro on overwatch.
I've done some more thinking about Moba influences and I actually did come up with 3 archetypes that could potentially work maybe. the Damage Over Time attacker. an annoying poison-based fighter, essentially countered by healing but if they could stop healing like Ana's grenade or reduce healing like TF2 Pyro's flamethrower then it becomes less of an issue. Could be fire-based rather than poison-based. Could be hard to make in a game that focuses on burst damage so much. I'd be surprised if the development team didn't already have several iterations of this guy. the Tanky Aura Carrier. has a strong passive aura always effecting heroes in a nearby area, giving a powerful buff to allies or a debilitation debuff to enemies, or even both. always contributes to the match by just being alive and nearby, and therefore becomes a focus of the enemy team. I had a concept a while back when Roadhog was being reworked that would have turned him into this but i think Blizzard's idea worked better. the Berzerker. a hero that gets faster and stronger as their health decreases. probably has an ability that costs health to use, and another that self heals so that they can regulate their own health level. could be frustrating with ally supports healing you but they could have a heal block like the Equalizer weapons that TF2 soldier has
Another possible character to get the hero treatment is the queen of Junker Town.
Yes, please! ... For strictly gameplay reasons, of course
Not unless they change her design. I was hyped to see what the queen would look like of a post apocalyptic Mad Max Australia, I thought it'd be something truly scary. Nah just another pretty face that almost looks like Zarya.
I'm sure SFM has nothing to do with that, eh?
How about a hero that isnt a dps hero
It probably won't happen due to being a pain to code and balance, but it would be cool to see a rubick style "ability thief" hero in overwatch.
Invoker. Not a 1:1 port, but someone really complex.
They need to make someone super slow and huge but does a lot of damage Someone more vulnerable than roadhog and does more damage Like a heavy weapons guy
I think Heavy with Natascha is 100% going to happen at some point in this game. The hero will be slow as you say and deal pretty big damage but to avoid stepping on Bastion's toes (?) it'll tone down the damage in exchange of slowing down the enemy.
Like a certain special enemy in a recently added gamemode?
If the Heavy Assault enemy was ported into a playable hero, do you guys think they'll move his crit hitbox to his head or leave it on his back? It's definitely a neat and unique part of him but think it'd be tricky to balance since you can effectively always have your critbox hidden if you have a high enough mouse sensitivity or are standing against a wall. My only guess is maybe he gets locked into a slow turn rate while firing?
Bast's crit box is on his back when he's in turret mode and it works well enough.
I have an idea for a potential hero ability, and I was wondering what you guys would think about it. Ideally it would be for Sanjay, in the role of a DPS or aggressive support role working name : Inverse Barrier it functions similarly to Zarya's Projected Barrier, but instead of applying it to teammates, you put it on enemies. The barrier functions as "friendly" to Sanjay and his team, appearing blue and not obstructing their weapons or abilities in any way. Enemies would see a red barrier placed around their teammate, and would not be able to select them for targeted buffs like Zarya's bubble, Nanoboost, Orb of Harmony, or any of mercy's abilities. Because barriers block line of sight, Lucio's buffs are blocked as well. The barrier also blocks damage like any other barrier, and will break after a damage threshhold is met (placing it on an enemy in the frontline can be useful for blocking damage from their team, and a team can quickly free their teammate from the debuff by breaking the shield off) I'm unsure if the player affected will also have their damage blocked or if they should freely shoot out of it. Buffs that the player uses on themselves (Cryo Freeze, Wraith Form, Deathmatch Nanoboost, etc.) are unaffected (Zarya can actually remove Inverse Barrier from herself with her personal barrier, and Tracer can Recall it off). Situations to use it in: -when you see a Rein overextending and you expect he's about to get Nanoboosted -just about any time you want to kill a tank but they're being focuses by their healers. -use it on a Pharah and her mercy won't be able to fly up to or heal her for a while I'd imagine it would probably last around 6 seconds if not destroyed (basing it off Hack's duration) and probably have 200 health like Zarya's bubble Sanjay wouldn't get any damage boost the way Zarya does.
