It's really one of the only subforum I've missed during the Great Subforum Culling on oldpunch
i mean doesn't hurt to try, but didn't nearly everyone that used it leave FP to start their own community elsewhere? is there even gonna be much use for it now?
i'm not really active in that community but i've followed through most of their exile history since i like reading about gats
maybe like put it up like an interest check? can't blame them if they don't want to return to facepunch though with how much they've gone through :v
you make it sound a lot more dramatic than what I recall lol. We just axed the subforum and merged it to general discussion again since it was barely being used, and told them to just use their threads there instead. Then they all left instead. But yeah regardless if they don't want to come back then I don't see the point tbh
Hi, airsoft subforum refugee here. While it is a nice thought, we've honestly done just fine on our Discord server.
I think an alternative suggestion would be the creation Hobbies Subforum. Airsoft threads would work there and we could always link back to the Discord for rapid response questions and answers etc.
I think a thread would work well. I've been thinking about this as well for a while so I'm glad I saw your thread pop up.
I suggest we post an airsoft megathread under the Firearms category for now. I don't want to do it because I don't actually play airsoftyet, I'm interested in lurking and maybe asking dumb questions about getting started though.
It doesn't really fit in the Firearms subforum imo. I mean I wouldn't care but I feel like it would fit better in General or in its own subforum. I can't speak for everyone on here but on other forums when I see people posting about Airsoft among real firearms they always get shit on for their "toy guns" or whatever.
Why not just make a subforum for it and see how well it does? If it's popular enough, leave it, if not then just confine it to a megathread in general. I'd probably lurk and post stuff every now and then even though I don't play it, I love watching Go pro footage of professional matches and I'd love to actually play it if I could find some other players or a local league or whatever. Hell if enough of my friends are interested I could just host my own on my land. Airsoft looks fun as hell.
Airsoft is so expensive ;~;
BTW Last time I checked the forums they made died recently. They actually had a pretty damn good run considering everyone said they'd be dead in a week.
Also, am refugee too
I think it has something to do with drama with the guy hosting the server
Guy who hosted it here. I transferred hosting to someone else (don't remember who) after a pretty solid 2-year run. I left mostly because I lost in airsoft and by extension the site itself. However the final nail in the coffin was that I found that I just disagreed with a lot of the members on everything from politics to ethics. I felt I wasn't fit to run a community I didn't feel much connection to anymore. 🤷
Pretty sad to see this suggestion dead after 3 months. Reading back I think a decent amount of people would be interested in a subforum for Airsoft. But guess it's not happening then? Could we have a single airsoft megathread somewhere instead?
Personally I am quite interested. Since the last airsoft subforum Airsoft has become legal in the Netherlands and became pretty popular. Cool to see other Dutch airsofters here.
I'm currently 17 so would be interested in lurking in the meanwhile but won't be long until I'll get into it. Pretty sure I'll enjoy it.
Just use the Firearms subforum, they only have about 7 threads
I suggested that a while ago but people seemed to disagree quite a bit. The people from the firearms sub aren't so fond of our "child's toys".
I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that air soft were" child's toys"
Just make a thread in firearm, airsoft doesn't need a subforum
There should honestly be a hobbies subforum. The Fashion sub is kinda dead, espeically with the general chat being locked and there being so few people on FP actually interested in fashion. That way, you could also have a bunch of other topics fit into it as well and make it more lively.
I suggested a hobbies subforum 3 months ago. Looks like it was genuinely considered for a minute then entirely forgotten. https://forum.facepunch.com/f/meta/bsnzh/Hobbies-Subforum/1/
Anyways, if you look through my post history I literally only joined FP back in 2011 for the airsoft subforum. I'd participate in airsoft threads if they came back, but I'm also entirely content with the Discord we're on now. Either way, having a greater airsoft presence on the main FP site would be nice to grow awareness for the hobby for those who might be interested.
Yeah, I made a post on the thread about what subforums to implement about the same thing. A hobbies subforum would've alleviated a lot of issues about activity and whatnot. Dunno why it wasn't made tbh
Garry doesn't want broad categories as subforums, he wants subforums concentrating on one issue
That being said feel free to make airsoft threads in the firearms forum (it's pretty dead otherwise). If it is popular I will consider creating a separate forum for airsoft
The the subforums are destined to fail. They need to be broad enough to attract actual activity - they currently are not.
yeah and that's dumb because you end up with whole forums dedicated to 2 threads
\/
Also I guess that means we can have an airsoft thread. Who will make it?
Also what's the Discord you guys been talking about?
You can make it.

I might make a thread about my airsoft stuff tomorrow; see how it goes.
As I said previously. I'm in the Netherlands and 17 y/o so not a legal member yet so it doesn't feel like I should be the OP of an airsoft megathread. Also wouldn't really be sure what to post other than "Hey this is an airsoft thread. Welcome.". I'll leave it to someone like @northshore or @joost1120 .
Don't see how that would be super important, but guess its a good enough reason.
Well it does imply I have never even touched a proper Airsoft gun before. Except for my Walther P99 springer pistol, M1911 GBB my friend has and his big ass spring Deagle.
