Communities which entirely subsisted on a single (usually slow) thread wherein a cohesive discussion could be had, questions asked, and answers found, are now being forcibly split into multiple threads. The people, like myself, that enjoyed reading the general threads, with no interest in hopping between minor thread to minor thread are now pushed by the wayside to redditize. Now I'm not opposed to splitting things into subforums, but I wholeheartedly believe a general thread shouldn't be against the rules. Otherwise you're gonna end up with a lot of shit that looks like this. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58157/3d7723c7-d5dd-419a-8236-58f7a44abd31/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58157/95b5edee-b8b1-417c-852a-006c1f38d3d7/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58157/eba2e5e3-d902-44c8-bdb3-16d06c1ed2e0/image.png and more. Yeah, these are satirical shitposty versions of what it would really be, but do we really need individual threads for each and every tiny little thing? Automotive Addicts lived on just fine as a single general thread. Airsoft (from what I saw) did just fine as a general thread. Same goes for Firearms. If someone wants to make a more precise thread? Don't stop them. For the people that like the big general threads, why not let them have it? I don't think it inherently has to be one or the other, does it?
Not making subforums actual subforums is retarded.
I agree. I've already made a thread on that here. Removing subforum posts from general listings?
In practice, yes, but with the lack of a general/mega thread you're going to see a flood of misc. threads at all given points, that could've been conglomerated into a single thread
Yes but the fact this is allowed in the first place, the fact it's even promoted by the Mods, and the fact this whole thing was to give each thread a Subforum so they didn't pollute the Main subforum with threads, only to have all the threads show in the main subforum anyway, is the problem.
Seemed easier to just have one big megathread for a particular topic. If you were new to the topic, you didn't need to sift through all the pages to be able to jump into the current discussions. Garry's explained himself, but I really just don't understand his reasoning for all this. Would it not be easier and cleaner to just have all content/discussion related to one topic organized into one thread?
the threads were deleted and a bunch of users I recognize were perma'd I know they shouldn't have spammed but it still makes me sad
this is a donkey dick megathread pls close it
this change will be cool and epic when people ask about keyboards and/or mice and have to make a brand new fucking thread about it every fucking time they want to ask a question.
Still patiently waiting for a nice rainbow six subforum.
