• Subscribed thread alerts should go into the Thread Alerts section

Simple stuff, the Thread Alerts section right now is only useful if you actively make a thread. While I know Garry want people to post more threads it's still a mostly useless tab if you haven't made a thread which gets replied to a lot. Conversely if you follow a lot of threads and are in active discussions the Reply Alerts tab gets filled up very quickly. I think all thread related alerts should be in the Thread Alerts tab and only direct replies should be placed in the Reply Alerts tab.

I never understood why you'd subscribe to an entire subforum. Surely that just results in endless spam. Why not just browse the subforum yourself?
Because some people like the convenience of just looking at the feed? Its also useful for the more specialised and slower subforums like programming.
In cases like the meta subforum it's much easier to subscribe to the entire subforum then subscribe specifically to the threads you want to keep up with since subscribing to a subforum only notifies you when a thread is made and not when it gets posts. You don't need to actively browse the subforum this way. You can just passively do so from the front page or wherever you happen to currently be on the site.
