The game is briliant, yet fundamentally flawed, perhaps even more so when scrutinized under the lens of hindsight. As a legacy game that has survived for over a decade, the core precepts followed throughout the course of its development are reflective of the zeitgeist it was born from. This right here would be where its greatest difficulties lie; its everlasting appeal stems from development philosophies that have long since been abandoned by the industry, yet those same philosophies are difficult to reconcile with the modern age. Because of this, the game has an identity crisis that has stunted its growth, especially in light of the mega hits that are League of Legends, Dota 2, Fortnite, PUBG, and CS:GO. Pseudo-competitive, yet casual multiplayer games host to many players per server have faded away in favor of focused competitive experiences with more intimate player counts. The TF2 team realizes that the game's future lies with an adoption of contemporary sensibilities, but cannot at the same time eschew what made it so alluring in the first place. All of this is compounded by the fact that TF2 was never properly balanced from the onset, and received many questionable and shortsighted changes in the years leading up to what can only be described as an epiphany on Valve's part. Couple this with how Valve operates as a company, and you have quite the conundrum.
I've certainly had a lot of good memories with it, so I feel like I'm inclined to say yes to it being good, though, can't say anything about it's current state since I haven't played it in a year or so.
bad meme
It's a free game. You can download it at any time and form your own opinion.
Slowly dying, imo, without much Valve can do about it since the original game design has kind of trapped them out of providing the competitive experience modern FPS players seem to always want. But it's still very playable and fun.
I don't actually care about TF2, I intended this as a protest thread and I have no idea how it slipped under the radar.
(Rob McElhenney voice) "That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about straights to dispute it."
The community can eat a dick for sure though
