My suggestions are geared toward Games.
Moving forward toward disposable threads, I feel that threads need to better communicate its content.
Although the current situation do need to some to simmer down due to the initial adjustment to faster and larger quantity threads, the current implementation is obviously not without faults. I like to introduce a few concepts to better help members subconsciously filter out subjects of no interest. Will OP previews from hovering over thread titles return? should be a priority, IMO.
Content sensitive Thread Icons

Readers should be able to tell what the thread intend to communicate at a glance. The current set of thread icons are not suited for this.
Here are a few quick suggestions for common types of game-related content:
News - for when the devs reveal something new, or a new game/patch has arrived.
ESport - for when digital sport is concerned
Fan work - for when a creative derivative work by a fan is being shared.
Opinion - for when criticizing or gathering validations.
Question - for inquiries or discussion.
Funny - for memes and witty moments.
Gossip - for when one has something unofficial but interesting to share.
Kingdom - for Megathreads, if they are still permitted.
Replace subforums with Tags

Instead of having >10 subforums that might require updating as per popularity phases, let the community tag their thread. Preferably custom tag, the importance is adding another identifier to the threads so readers can quickly decide to engage or avoid it. Tags are visible just like the current subforum tags. Subforums are suggested to be completely removed.
Icons and Tag searching

Clicking either the icon or tag will direction the user straight to Search, which should double as a "filter". This will allow users quickly get to topics they find interesting if they are overwhelmed within the bustling forums.
I think subscribing to tags would be good too, maybe I am only interested in Overwatch and Path of Exile that I would only want to see those threads for example.
