This whole thing is fear mongering. 80% of Immigrant Women being rape victims does not mean that the immigrants coming INTO the United States are rapists. The sleight of hand that turns "rape victim" into "rapist" is very, very, concerning. If Trump's point was that the migrants were rape victims (which is the point the HuffPost article makes), then why was his response to call for a military response on the border to turn those migrants away, and/or why does he have a problem with the lottery system? 1.) 44.6% don't speak English at Home - The actually question is speak a language OTHER than english at home. AKA, live in a bilingual or multilingual household. And, even if its true that they didn't speak English (which they do...) who cares?... 2) Collapse of infrastructure and public debt are the fault of immigrants? Public spaces are filthy is their fault? And so is the middle class leaving? Please explain how this is related to immigration. 3) Housing prices out of control and low wages are the fault of immigrants? please explain. How do people watch this Ali Noorani guy demolishing Tucker and say, "LOL what an idiot, get em tuck!" Tucker Carlson doesn't want a "fact based conversation."
"Cherry picking and intentionally misrepresenting statistics threatens people advocating for human rights."
imagine unironically posting a Fox News clip and siding with the fuckin hosts
I can not
I didn't know we had Fox News shills here now.
At least this poster is transparent about their motives.
What are my motives?
We have for a good while.

I don't care what that wehrboo and all the other posters say, you're the best poster here.
Well no shit, Fox news isn't exactly known for their honesty. But #3 is pretty straightforward and probably right. If more people are buying houses, then real estate prices are going to go up. Low wages is more of an issue of increased competition for the same small amount of jobs. Now listen, immigration isn't bad on it's own. It's not really a matter of crime or drugs either, because the CIA probably has their hand in that bit. The real reason immigration is a problem in the United States is that it's happening way too quickly. Sure average wages go up across the board, but that's taking into account the added people from immigration, and is actually the opposite for the indigenous population of the area. I'm all for limited immigration to this country, as population growth isn't bad if you have enough land and time to develop it. I'm not for the kind of immigration that ends up pushing union workers like my father out of a job because non union workers (usually mexican since they can barely speak english and aren't familiar with the country yet) are able to be payed less for the same job. I understand they need the money, that they need a home, and that Mexico is an absolute SHITHOLE, but I'd rather fix the underlying problems than burden other countries with their problems. It's a complicated issue. In a country with media funded by 6 different corporations, it's pretty much impossible to find reasonable, neutral sources. I would like to see people go out and research this topic for themselves rather than watching a 9 minute youtube video that confirms their biases and teaches them absolutely nothing.
As someone who is an electrician and works in the residential sector, housing prices are going up because of investors, not immigrants. An illegal immigrant maybe buy/rent a single house and put a crew in there but that's it. Majority of houses being bought right now are from investors wanting to buy out and rent out the houses with insane rent costs. Just last month, a builder sold 30 lots for cheap houses that they plan on renting out for 1.3K a month in a single day. When the market crashed back in 08, the entire housing market was rock bottom prices for homes because they were sold off to make back some cash from the loans they faulted on. Im talking about a 400K home going for 120K. That was a prime time for renters to come in and do a massive land grab from right under people who actually need the homes. Thanks to that, rent prices have slowly been spiraling out of control with a single bedroom apartment costing around 900~ on average on even the most roach infested places. the prices have been climbing because the market keeps expanding towards renting. You can buy a cheap house and pay less than renting, but most people in my generation barely have over 1K in savings/worth as is. Also, I don't know if its just near me, but old people are most of the new home buyers I've seen that move into these homes, or people who are married/stem/engineering (Indians are a huge share of home buyers). I've never seen a person who's under 30 who isn't in one of those careers be able to buy a new home with this market, most are stuck renting because of the massive upfront cost. Personally im holding my money and betting on another 08 crash to get a home for dirt cheap.
To start an argument and "troll the libs" either that or a fantasy about this somehow changing minds
Assuming you're a millenial, that's no doubt true. I'm not going to argue against the fact that realtors are the main cause of rising house prices, but that only really applies to big cities that are a popular place to live(like most of SoCal). Over here in Pennsylvania, I can get rent a two bedroom apartment in about the same conditions for about a hundred dollars cheaper. Still, supply and demand do influence the market, so the immigrants definitely have some measurable impact. Let's hope someone does a study on this. As for generation Z, they're actually buying a surprisingly high amount of houses seeing as the top age for the demographic is 23(source: my companies' intranet. Can't link to that.). I know plenty of people who are finding surprisingly good jobs in the workforce and skipping college to buy a house. UPS drivers make bank dude.
well of course you can move way out of the city and get housing for dirt cheap, but then you have commute. Immigrants rarely live alone, because its easier to live together and split the stupid high rent rate between 3-5 people. The supply is being dried up by mostly realtors/older generation people in the metro area. Sure people will move out to the country, but the jobs are near the metro area. Right now, the county over is having a massive crisis because housing has gotten so high that young labor is being dried up entirely. Immigrants are not the issue, the disparity of home ownership and extremely terrible wage is the reason why no one can get a home.
Right now in canada as far as housing goes in my area I'm fucked seven ways from sunday due to speculation and I just lost a bidding war over a condo today. Another aspect of the problem is that real estate developers only want to build $700000 penthouses.
But also the wall is a pointlessly expensive boondooggle that won't fix any of the problems that it said to be made for. immigration sabre rattlers don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to facts.
I live in crowded suburbs right next to Philadelphia how the hell am I making more than you in an entry level position with just a high school education? I've been offered jobs at schools around here for that exact 12$ an hour starting wage doing janitor work as well. Sounds like you need to move. Down in Texas, all you need is a 6 month course to do chemical plant work, and you only have to work 14 days a month, but it's all in a row or something and the hours are long. But you make 65k + a year and you barely do any work.
really? just move, just pack up that under 1K you have and move out to somewhere more affordable. If you cant even move out, how in the hell is a person expected to be able to move to another state, let alone cross country, get a place to stay, AND get a 6 month education. Most of the people complaining about the housing to begin with don't have the cash to do all that or else they would in the first place. The issue at its very core is the stagnated wages, not the fact that people have to just pack their shit and move. If everyone just packed their shit and moved, the entire local economy would collapse list some old major cities are experiencing. This bullshit of blaming everything on the immigrants or the people needs to stop immediately. People shouldn't have to move to get basic fucking wages to afford just surviving.
plenty of people in my generation don't really seem to have a problem doing that? You can do it at your local community college, and if you don't have an income you could probably get a government grant and basically go to that community college for free to get certified. The reason wages are so stagnated is because there's way too much competition in the job markets, and an influx of immigrants isn't going to help that get better. It's not that they're the main reason, it's that it's another thing contributing to the growing problem of falling wages. Ultimately, our economy isn't really being propped up by any sort of major exporting market and the government isn't doing anything to renegotiate trade deals in our favor. Wall street continues to play the speculation market game and indulge in high-frequency trading(this really should be illegal) which damages the stock market. This is a multi-faceted problem and there needs to be a concerted effort to address it or we're going to end up a shithole in the next 60 years.
Did this fuck nut seriously just conflate that rape victims immigrating to the US are also rapists?
Thank you for presenting a more nuanced view on this topic. As you say, there isn't a lot of unbiased discussion of the issue, so I'm very appreciative that someone with a clearer head such as yourself is willing to air your thoughts on the topic The problem you're describing seems to be more of a problem with labor laws than one purely of immigration. Here in Australia we've had a similiar problem with what's called a 457 worker's visa. Essentially, companies were using a legal loophole to bring in skilled workers from overseas and pay them far less than the normal salary for an Australian worker doing a job. Even though the workers were here legally, the companies were abusing a loop hole to have bring in foreigners to do jobs and replace Australian workers for a much lower price. As you can see from the wikipedia article, the 457 visa was eventually repealed and replaced with new legislation requiring companies to hire Australian workers over bringing in foreigners from overseas as long as there are people here who can do the work. There are other issues causing people in Western countries to lose on job opportunities. For example, automation and outsourcing. The combination of which cause a greater loss of jobs than immigration alone. The solution seems to be better labor laws so that all workers (legal or otherwise) get fair pay and adequate worker's protection. And to regulate automation ad outsourcing.
