I noticed a lot of questions about navigating the forums now were answered with "Just use the search engine now" but the search engine doesn't feel optimal for doing so atm. So I just wanted to give some suggestions:
Making the engine more eye catching can help, every forum has a search bar but a lot of them are just bars on top of the forums, so newcomers would probably visually filter it out. Add a message or something eye catching to motivate users to use it like "Looking for something specific? Try the search bar" or something similar to that.
Changing the search results would help as well, all we see at the moment are threads that have searched words keyworded and when said thread was made. If we could see how many new posts we're made in varied timeslots (how many posts in the past hour, day, etc.) Or since the last you checked the thread, I think it would improve navigating greatly.
We could also add tags in each thread so you can filter out tags (for example I tried looking at fallout and I got a couple of threads that had nothing to do with the game but had the words fallout in it used in a different context)
If there's any better alternatives or suggestions I'll he glad to hear them
I noticed the search option is really specific. I was trying to find a thread that had a distinctive noun in the title so I put that, but because I used the singular instead of the plural or vice-versa it got 0 results and I didn't realise until I tried again later. Maybe it could have some kind of intelligence so that doesn't happen? I have no clue what I'm talking about so I dunno if that's an easy thing to fix or not.
I don't know if I'm just missing something because I'm dumb but I don't know how to just search for a user. I can't apply filters other than narrowing down the first few results that are already there, for example I can't search for what I posted unless I go through my profile.
