So a big issue I have had is not being able to easily build over rivers, now this may not be a large issue but let me tell you how frustrating it is when you are being chased by a player and because you can't easily get over a river you drop in and have to swim. The player pulls out a spear and gets you whilst you are slowly swimming to safety. I know there are some tricks to building over a river, but perhaps a new construction block called 'Bridge Section' could be added purely for building over rivers. This would allow for local players to pass over it with ease. Thank you for reading!
I somewhat agree and also disagree. Nothing is really "easy" in Rust and its not supposed to be. You need to plan ahead where you are going to be (farming) so that if someone is chasing you - you have way to get away without putting yourself at a disadvantage. If you end up in a river and end up "dead in the water" (pun intended) - thats kind of your own fault. You should have planned better. You can already build bridges (obviously not instantly - you need to plan and take time to build it) - but that bridge can give you a huge advantage (you can put traps to deter players and even to kill them! To get free loot! So I disagree that we should have "easy" bridges. Plan for one. Build one. Lure and kill players chasing you. Think outside the box! PROFIT!?
Like the feedback man, I know it's not supposed to be a walk in park. But more often than not it doesn't allow players to build over rivers. Which in any form of survival society, they would at least make some form of raft, or bridge to get across. Saying its made shitty just to catch out non forward thinkers is a silly notion at best. Much like you cant build walls through some rocks, which if your base is near one, and you can't build the wall, an enemy may be able to launch things through it. To you it's about planning before hand. To me it's being able to interact with the environment on a deeper level as to add a better feel whilst playing. But I already posted one about this a few weeks back, maybe a month. Never the less, thank you for reading!
This is a whole different issue (and potentially a bug?) I've pretty much always been able to build over rivers, (there might be some "glitchy" spots here and there, but you can always walk 2-3 meters up/down-stream and build there). So I never experienced this issue, and your issue might be a bug. All of the buddies I played with have been able to build over rivers if they choose so. Are you playing on a procgen map by any chance or a fixed map? Keep in mind alot of changes were made this patch to how the map is generated - and FP is making continuous effort to make the terrain better (that includes those glitchy rocks where you cant build/wall. I hate those as well)
Not sure what the difference is there, but usually I play on maps that the owner has taken a map code from a website and used that. As you can see what it looks like before playing. I have to admit I didn't they changed how things work around rivers this update, so maybe my issue will be gone. I will try it later on and get back to you - thanks for the heads up man!
Hey guys, i have an answer for you. recently Ive gotten EXTREMELY good at bridging. the biggest thing you can do for yourself is to put a foundationd down in the bottom of the river or body of water you want to cross. the place a tool cupboard. after that you need to use wall frames and half walls to bring the platform to the desired level.(use wallframes because they are cheaper to upkeep you dont get a choice with halfwalls) once you have all your wall frames put in and it is the way you want it its time to top it with floors. MAKE SURE BOATS CAN GET THROUGH or someone WILL break it. using this method you can bridge over any body of water as long as it isn't registered as black on the map. my record is 3 stories deep. if you don't believe what i say you can look up my steam profile under this exact same name. good luck boys.iPhoto Library.photolibrary.zip
Being chased by an angry player? Don't go to the water.
also if you get too close to a monument thats too bad
I have to say that the bridges displayed above (although interesting) are over what are more bays than rivers, since a few wipes ago the rivers are now deeper, where you used to be able to make a bridge with a line of single foundations now you have to go down deep and put each foundation down then build up half walls and a floor for each piece of the bridge, I used to build them because the (extra) bears and zombies (modded server) love to swim and there is nothing like swimming across a river and finding your companion is a bear , but there is not much point on most servers as it makes it easier for your enemies too unless you put walls and doors on them, which may be a lot of work for not much reward,
each project took at least 2 ingame days. the big one took 10(mostly because i didnt know what i was doing and yes i know this alot of times they are 3/4 stories down at their deepest. i dont do anything deeper than that because you drown before you can surface.
