The social media giant said AggregateIQ (AIQ) may have improperly received users' data.
It cites reported links with the parent company of Cambridge Analytica (CA), the consultancy accused of improperly accessing the data of millions.
AIQ denies ever being part of CA, its parent company SCL or accessing improperly obtained Facebook data.
The Vote Leave campaign paid AIQ £2.7m ($3.8m) ahead of the 2016 EU referendum.
This is getting sad at this point
This is the Big Data future we allowed to happen. Just saying.
Facebook didn't create brexit or trump, but they let them win. Was the ad money worth it?
It was. The people behind Facebook will not be harmed by Brexit or Trump in the slightest. This was literal free money for them
I think trump might harm facebook in a way because his insane supporters likely don't trust big sites like facebook. Facebook's employees, even zuckerberg are probably pretty liberal, couldn't they set aside their greed to help the side that they prefer to win? Though that would pretty bad too, just please don't interfere in politics directly or indirectly zucc.
Big tech companies generally use politics to build a positive image, and they can usually manage that while being pretty hands-off. As unpleasant as Facebook might seem to a neo-nazi, they're more likely to be ignored than sabotaged, and running away to some remote knockoff site for racists to bitch about mean Zuckerberg's conspiracy is counterproductive if they're not banned.
