Some people were wanting some answers from the mod team on the status of things and while I can't ultimately say that I know EXACTLY what's happening in terms of structure and future plans, there ARE some things that I've been able to answer from people who have reached out to me personally so:
Here's a place to ask me more questions. If I don't have the answer, I don't have the answer, but you can ask me about the forums, about what might be coming in the new rules, about whether or not my day has been going okay, whether @Tlean is actually three dogs in a trenchcoat, or about whatever else you might want to know.
All I ask is that if you're gonna start debating about pretty much anything, take it to one of the other threads on the topics, that way we can keep this one as close to a proper Q+A as possible. You can comment on some of the answers, that's fine! I'd just rather you take arguments to another, more appropriate area.
I'll update the OP with the answers and stuff as we go along.
Thanks!
How'd you end up with having José as your avatar?
Because he's my boyfriend and I love him.
Real answer: I've been applying with internships with Disney for some creative positions in merchandising, so I've been going back to watch some of their older 2D films and ended up rewatching Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros and was reminded how great the character was.
What was it like for the mod team when Garry made the most recent changes? Was there warning? Is it the same whenever Garry changes stuff?
I am coughing a lot and still trying to sort out some forum stuff here but I bought some new clothes so that was nice.
what's your favourite band
Ooouuu, whatcha get?
Pretty sure I either came home to it or woke up to it. We had some initial like "oh alright" and I believe Garry did pop in for a little bit to mention a few things but I'd have to scroll back and see what it was. I was probably trying to focus on work so I kind of forgot about it until I finished up and came back and that's about when I realized things were kind of in disarray.
There wasn't very much warning but none of us were altogether too surprised I don't think. We knew he's been planning to restructure stuff for a little while, we just didn't know how or when lol.
Can other mods join in and we can just make this a mod QA megathread?
I think a lot of them are away right now or busy but if they want to answer questions, I don't mind. I just knew that I'm sitting here with the free time lol.
Hey pascall I have a question
You have to pay an additional mod-2-mod communication fee of $5.99.
What's your sexual orientation?
Asexual.
Do you slam threads closed and yell "Why do I seem to be the only that does anything around here?"
Nah because I usually attribute it to me being one of the only ones who works from home so I have more time to do things than most of the other moderators do.
Ok whatever i'll paypal you some chuck-e cheese coins later but,
I have a question, what do I do with it?
I can smell a setup from a mile away sir
what exactly is this site supposed to offer that makes it better than things like reddit and stackexchange?
what is the defining appeal of this site that these changes enhance? Or is this something that nobody in development has talked with the mods about?
(Idk what stackexchange is)
But the main thing that I think draws me to this forum is that I can recognize the users. Whether that be because of avatars or backgrounds or whatever. I think that amount of personalization has always been apart of FP in one way or another.
Another thing is yeah the community, though in truth, I haven't really been a part of any real "community" on here since the days of the Gift Giving Thread lol. I like to just think that I pop in places here and there now.
Because of that, I don't feel as though these changes change much of anything for myself, personally. And I've said as much before. Which is why I'm not bothered so heavily by them. But I would like to see some of the more 'general chat' threads stay open while also allowing for other threads to be made if people want to have somewhere to talk about something very specific or ask a question away from the "chat" or show off stuff related to the subforum that they're afraid of getting lost in the general thread.
I think that'd be a good way to compromise between encouraging new threads while not "splitting up" communities like people are afraid of. Just don't disallow new thread creation like we used to. Which I think is about on par with where we're heading with our new rules.
Yeah I would agree. I think persistent user interaction is a big part of what makes this place more engaging than other boards.
I just want to know if Garry's said what he wants the site to be. We can't give feedback if we don't know what the goal is.
Well he did recently say that he's not against megathreads. He just doesn't want people to feel like they can't make new threads on similar topics.
So my personal perception is that our megathreads can stay, but there's literally no reason for us to continue to discourage people to make new threads. So if people want to do that they totally can, as long as the thread isn't just like really stupid and shitty.
If you want more details than that I'm not sure how soon it'll be before you get them but that's what I'm choosing to go off of for the time being.
