Well, based on the way the Russian government reacted during and after the Crimean crisis, I guess it's going to go down like this:
Lol, wtf are you talking about?
We still don't know what you're talking about, but it wasn't Russia's fault!
Ok, We think we finally see what the problem is, but it still isn't our fault.
It was probably the [insert nationality, preferably Ukranian or anything western will do] again!
It was definitely the [insert nationality, preferably Ukranian or anything western will do]!
FALSE FLAG! Russia had nothing to do with this!
Even if Russia had anything to do with this, it doesn't matter because other countries do it all the time too!
Even if it were somebody from Russia, it would have to be nobody from the government, perhaps a disgruntled intern at one of our chemical labs stole this chemical weapon that Russia does not and has not ever possessed, yes!
What are you talking about? Oh... that thing? You're still worried about that thing? Yeah, it was us, but we had a very good reason. There were ethnic Russians living in the same building as Skripal and we were worried about their safety aaaand we could still remember the way you reacted during that whole Crimea debacle, so instead of sending in our soldiers, we decided to deal with the source of our concerns directly! Great move, wasn't it? Anyway, now forget about it. It's not important, these things happen, yada-yada!
I seriously wonder how people, such as my Russian-propaganda-spreading older brother, can still believe and actively support the Russian government even after they pull shit like this!
My mom is Russian, and staunchly believes Russia can do no wrong.
Her main argument against it being Russia is that the UK refuse to show evidence that the poison was a Novichok poison, as well as this happening right before the elections, and Russia hosting the FIFA World Championship.
She also loves that some countries opposed punishing Russia for this.
I mean, they do. And that nerve agent is very deadly, but all three victims (except pets) are still in hospital, but do seem to be fine.
Investigation is not over, and unless it concludes, I refuse to believe those accusations (expecially because it's not the first time UN believed the "its chemical from that country, we swear" narrative, and it turned out to be a total disaster). If I am wrong - I am gonna admit it.
If anything, this coming right before the elections is a boost for Putin since it allows him to demonstrate his strength against international enemies.
I am pretty sure the police officer was released from the hospital, so only Skripals should still be in there.
And I also think this is why many people don't believe Russian government's excuses, because they've already done "similar" things before and they took their time talking about all sorts of different theories why it was somebody else's fault before finally admitting that they did do it or they never admitted it but the proof they provided was very sketchy at best.
Also, I don't recall seeing any article saying that the UK is refusing to share evidence with other countries. I know that the UK refused to share their findings with Russia, but I am not sure about other countries as the only articles I found was about the Russian government accusing the UK of hiding and destroying the evidence.
The Russian government wanted a sample of the nerve agent, but then again, let's say the UK shares it with them; I really doubt they'd go "Oh yeah, this is one of ours. Yeah, you were right, it's our fault. Oh well, gg guys."
I'd be wary of Stopfake, because they do the same thing as you mentioned - they take shitty Russian tabloids and spin them as "RUSSIA LIES".
And yeah, I hadn't found anyting about how UK shared anything with others. Or it didn't share anything. But some countries demanded concrete evidence, while others were too trigger-happy to evict diplomats (not that there was no reason to behave this way)
Very well, I replaced the StopFake link with Business Insider.
