Finally, a place to post about your tools, post AvE vids, discuss tools, and post pics of your impeccably clean and organized toolboxes. As you all well know, the tool collection is one of the most crucial parts of owning a car. Are you a cronic engine swapper, do you just maintain your cars, or are you one of those dinguses people who take their car to the shop just for an oil change? All are welcome here. If you like tools, but are unaware of AvE, he is a canadian bumblefack with a lot of indepth knowledge and a downright infectious personality. He regularly posts BOLTR videos, (Bored Of Lame Tool Reviews?), where he tears apart hand tools and power tools alike, reviews them, and uses them, in a non-bullshit non-sponsored shill way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG8KU_ln77k Ill start off the conversation of tools by introducing one of my favorite hand tools, my yankee screwdriver https://www.garrettwade.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/730x/0dc2d03fe217f8c83829496872af24a0/0/8/08c0301_1_4_1.jpg https://www.garrettwade.com/improved-yankee-style-screwdrivers-gp.html?SCID=W6071002&mkwid=sQnyBywxm&crid=251726309681&mp_kw=yankee%20screwdriver&mp_mt=e&pdv=c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInvnH3Ier2gIVyrfACh3OsgttEAAYASAAEgKiXPD_BwE works like a normal ratcheting screwdriver, till you flip the release and it springs out, you push into it a few times, and it spins on its own. Works great for disassembling things, because it spins and presses into the fastener, to reduce slipping. Ive also got a few questions for you people, one being suggestions for a good small cordless impact driver. I got my dad one a makita 20v one a few years ago and it was wonderful, but I dont know if theres something better on the market now. Second question, is there anywhere that sells a wideband o2 sensor and afr gauge for around $100? I really want one for tuning my carbed cars and motorcycles, but I dont really want to break the bank either.
A "good cordless impact driver", much like with any tools, is basically just down to whatever tool tribe you're currently enlisted in all the major brands make good ones, i personally stick with dewalt because their lithium impact wrench is skookum as frig
Holy shit I need proper tools. Today i found myself putting the racecar on jack stands by using like a 20dollar jack and removed the wheel nuts by hand.....it took me about 30 minutes...absolutely hate working with shit tools or without the proper tools. I've been dying to get my hands on a Milwaukee impact wrench.... https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41883UXat3L._SX425_.jpg Because I'd rather buy something that's pretty much the best there is, and not buy something mediocre first. But that causes me to still work with fuck all proper tools.
Eh, I use an air impact for wheel lugs and big ass rusty bolts and stuff, an electric impact just seems pointless to me.
I don't have a proper compressor and I'm out on the track a lot, taking the tires off probably 10 times a day there. Currently do everything by hand, break it loose with a breaker bar and then twist the nuts off by hand. I'd also love to have one of these (just discussed in the GD) https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/435e133d-83a0-47c3-a84e-86041336c4f6/image.png
I have a 1/2" Craftsman C3 impact that I got off Ebay for $30 and it's kinda broken, unfortunately.
This thread makes me happy. I need to organize all my tools, currently so god damn spread out since I had the water damage in my apartment. I want to try to find a project to do recreational tinkering on my free time since I only got a desk job. I really love working with my hands.
I kinda want to get this one soonish (within the next 6 months or so) I really want to be able to store all my tools in one spot. It's $800 and the thing feels really sturdy (went to look at it a few weeks back) Empty this thing weighs 275lbs! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/dbd725ee-5e94-40fb-86d2-e643e20846ec/image.png What kind of tool carts are you guys using? Currently I'm using this simple thing but it's too full https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/299cd8df-eb03-4ab9-893c-742531c7b113/image.png Also post your shop I guess! (Only saying this because I just cleaned the damn space...even cleaned the floor!) https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/7c88b8aa-7b1e-48de-b43e-6f2c389b0b81/image.png
I have no room to put any tools, so all I have are some harbor freight sets and a torque wrench and a breaker bar, literally stuck in my closet. I don't have a garage. Unless you can store one of those cool rolling tool things outside then I won't be able to get anything more. Just no room.
Anyone try out one of those ryobi 1/2" battery impact guns? At <$100 they seem promising.
I kind of want to get into tinkering with my car to save cash and learn, but I live in an apartment and don't even have my own parking spot (let alone a garage). Used my mom's driveway to switch tires and change oil, but it's slanted so it doesn't seem entirely safe. Not sure what to do..
I'm telling you man, it's one of the most useful tools I've ever purchased. In regards to the Milwaukee impact... to tide you over I'd pick up a corded cheapo Chinese impact and have fun with it in the meantime. Won't cost you more than $40 and you'd be amazed at what those fuckers can do. I've been using my totally unbranded electric impact (pretty sure it's the same exact thing as the Harbor Freight one) for 5 years now and it's never, ever let me down. I've cracked loose old, nasty subframe bolts, lugnuts, calipers, you name it. And what's even more awesome is that after spending only $40 to own it, I'm not worried about throwing it around or dropping it, and trust me, I've put it through its paces.
I'm using a stanley rolling tool chest and a craftsman 3 drawer portable and 2 toolbags and a plastic toolbox and 5 ammo cans and a 4x8 sheet of pegboard and every shelf on my workbench and half my house and 3/4ths of my shed no matter how much tool storage you've got, it's not enough
Just to make you jealous... this is on order now too. ;) 20V MAX* XR® 1/2 in. Mid
Post your shop? Not exactly my shop but I work here. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/145250/7e471cd0-47ae-4d55-8227-624ae7761e29/IMG-de894fcd56ec584505ec28142d05d9c6-V.jpg
I just got this black one from Harbor Freight for $200. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/222894/153d47d5-a617-4d12-9871-04427548420d/image.png Really nice storage shelves inside, the larger drawer has ball bearings, and the top is pretty large. Really happy with it.
had a look at this earlier https://www.snapon.com/diagnostics/us/thermal seems like some kind of fucken miracle device we took one just as a trial
Thread revival, I BIT THE BULLET Order the milwaukee 2861, 600nm of nut busting https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/243f2a69-2133-4517-8b58-28dba3c4af64/image.png And a proper fukin drill, 1200lb ft at 2000rpm https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/c3b283cf-a993-4867-a58c-a5154a3ebf51/image.png Going to be such a fucking relief when I switch from working with the absolute cheapest possible tools (50$ drill from the grocery store lol) to using top of the line stuff.
Dude.. So I got these last week. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/222894/e544e9d2-a2ac-4fe6-82de-304e3169fe3a/image.png $200 for the impact and $160 for the small impact, drill, 2 batteries, charger, and a bag. They wanted $200 for just the battery for the impact... So I got the 2-Tool combo. I bought it because I broke my Craftsman 300lb*ft a while back and I needed to get an axle nut off. Standing on a 3ft" breaker far and bouncing on it didn't move the axle nut. I took the impact out with a dead battery (literally out of the box no charge) and zapped it off in 1 second.
Fuck yeah! That's the 2767 right? I really want that too but it's too big for general stuff I do. I might just end up buying one later on though seeing how cheap the bare tool is.
It's enormous... The small impact is strong enough to take a lot of stuff off though. I need to get a 90* impact.
