The world’s richest 1% are on course to control as much as two-thirds of the world’s wealth by 2030, according to a shocking analysis that has lead to a cross-party call for action.
World leaders are being warned that the continued accumulation of wealth at the top will fuel growing distrust and anger over the coming decade unless action is taken to restore the balance.
An alarming projection produced by the House of Commons library suggests that if trends seen since the 2008 financial crash were to continue, then the top 1% will hold 64% of the world’s wealth by 2030. Even taking the financial crash into account, and measuring their assets over a longer period, they would still hold more than half of all wealth.
Since 2008, the wealth of the richest 1% has been growing at an average of 6% a year – much faster than the 3% growth in wealth of the remaining 99% of the world’s population. Should that continue, the top 1% would hold wealth equating to $305tn (£216.5tn) – up from $140tn today.
Analysts suggest wealth has become concentrated at the top because of recent income inequality, higher rates of saving among the wealthy, and the accumulation of assets. The wealthy also invested a large amount of equity in businesses, stocks and other financial assets, which have handed them disproportionate benefits.

Shit I need to get me one of those billion dollar ideas.
I like that we still have problems in the world too, meanwhile these people are just not giving a single fuck about anything.
when can we revolution, the proletariat are fed up
A US president was assassinated by an anarchist the last time wealth was so unequal.
Obviously they just worked harder than....everyone combined
They are not. They have electronics combined with self-doubt inducing media to keep them occupied .
And when I say they I of course only talk about myself
And it's not like people are blind to this:
New polling by Opinium suggests that voters perceive a major problem with the influence exerted by the very wealthy. Asked to select a group that would have the most power in 2030, most (34%) said the super-rich, while 28% opted for national governments. In a sign of falling levels of trust, those surveyed said they feared the consequences of wealth inequality would be rising levels of corruption (41%) or the “super-rich enjoying unfair influence on government policy” (43%).
To be honest, I am still really surprised how few people believe the very rich have a large influence on the government. It should be more like 90%, at the very least.
Honestly, we should just put a cap on how much money and single person is allowed to accumulate. No one person should ever need more than a billion dollars sitting in bank accounts doing nothing.
It's simple, we just make all of the current money invalid and print completely new money and only hand it out to poor people, hahaha.
The new currency will be programmed in such a way that it spontaneously combusts if it's accumulated in overly large quantities, both in virtual form and in physical form.
most of their wealth is probably measurable in property and stock acquisitions rather than liquid assets. you don't get to owning 2/3rds of the world's wealth by just keeping money in the bank.
One way to combat this is to support local currency.
I bought some recently and it's pretty fun.
Zog that, let's switch ta TEEFS!
Sure, If only depends if next Economical crisis will lead downright economical collapse. Than people who can't pay electronic bills due collapse will likely rise up and will find switch way to punished them.
The problem with this is that you get the situation with China where their multi millionaries and Billionaries are hiding their assets oversea's. The only way this gets fixed is if the major world powers can agree on something which won't happen when the 1 percent can buy people off. We're doomed to a dystopian society I'm afraid.
Nobody would go to the dentist any more, because they don't trust anybody to be near their teeth whilst they're unconscious. Declining dental health would cause the currency to depreciate, and the global economy would eventually fold
And who actually needs that much property? It's not like one person can occupy fifteen mansions.
let people do whatever they want, my freedoms!
The dentist is going to rob you blind either way, just make sure to use the Buddy System when going in for cleanings.
Also what dentists are knocking people unconscious for cleanings, JFC.
At first I thought that you were using a complex acronym for a brilliant prototype currency that I never heard of, but then I realized that you were one of DA ORC BOYZ
i'd be alright with the dentist taking a tooth if he hooks me up with that good shit
you make it so that you are always conscious during dental work no matter what, and be prepared to instantly duel with the dentist at the first sign of threat.
Make money out of Uranium, that'll keep anyone from storing it all in one place.
Not anymore, ain't got the teefs for it. :/
Mine all of the lead out of the planet's surface and eject it into space.
Radiation isn't the only threat from a bunch of uranium in one place.
Only the rich could afford to do that.
Golly gee how is it that we even store the stuff if it's so hard to do? :^)
You use the rich to mine all of the lead to create the illusion of it being immensely profitable and then you suddenly introduce the uranium currency out of nowhere.
...So now they have all the lead.
And likely poisoned the environment while mining/refining it.
I say we stick with TEEFS!
