It doesn't seem to serve any purpose to prevent it, other than not letting anyone express displeasure at a mod's "gotcha" last post.
Pretty much exactly what I thought when I went to rate a "lol no, locked" post dumb.
Im pretty sure that is the sole reason it was done.
I image the thought process is that is a thread is closed to input then that includes ratings.
Also getting a constant stream of dumbs from a thread you closed would be pretty fucking annoying.
I'm sure that's exactly why but now instead of just rating *insert_mod_name_here*'s post at the end of a locked thread dumb, I've gone and made a thread instead. It's kinda nice to just be able to express my impotent nerd rage on a closed thread and just get it out and be done with it, instead of just bottling it up and breeding resentment and discontent.
It's a small thing but if you just disable the notifications like @ilikecorn said, then I think it's win win.
Plus now we can't rate Dan Was Boobies! This is unacceptable.
