I've been wondering what people's views are in terms of what are the best heroes in the game in terms of character, design, gameplay, etc.
Keep in mind this isn't suppose to be a personal favorite hero discussion per say, this is suppose to be who you think is the best overall hero as objective as possible.
I'd like to start by saying while my personal favorite has always been Lucio, in terms of who is the best overall I think it's Reinhardt.

This guy is such a badass character in pretty much every category I can think of. His design is iconic, his kit is easy to understand and fits his character perfectly. his character has stayed consistent since day 1.
I also think he has the second best cinematic so far, only behind Bastion's. Reinhardt really has it all imo.
But yeah feel free to express your opinions on the matter, I'm really interested to see what other people think about this topic.
I think the most well designed character is Soldier. He combines hitscan and projectile use, he has healing, he's mobile but still positioning reliant, he's easy to learn but hard to master, and no one ever complains about playing against him.
Reinhardt is also up there because he's easy to use for beginners too but requires a lot of thinking at high levels. He's also the most enjoyable to play against out of the main tanks. The only thing I don't like about Rein as a DPS player is that he doesn't let me utilize mechanical skill much.
Mei is a very well designed hero with both a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling. Most people can be effective just be holding left click and freezing enemies, and she's surprisingly durable. If you're not good with positioning, you can just ignore the wall completely.
holy FUCK does the wall change the game if you're good with it. It's the strongest tool in game when it comes to controlling and disrupting an area, which means it's the strongest tool for screwing over your own team if used improperly. I've played with maybe 3 Meis that effectively use the wall, but being able to turn a 6v6 into a 6v3 for a moment is insane.
mei is my personal favorite but i'll be the first to admit that her reliance on stuns is a somewhat annoying design fault (one that's, of course, very common among overwatch heroes)
as far as gameplay design goes, i'd be inclined to agree with reinhardt, along with some of the heroes they added soon after launch (i.e. ana, orisa).
purely in terms of character, nothing really tops junkrat for me. he may be annoying as all dick to play against, but he's been consistently one of the most entertaining personality-wise, his visual design is on-point, and i wish we'd get more from him
It's hard for me to choose an overall best hero.
Regarding design: Bastion. I just love that he communicates via beeps, which somehow makes it still understandable. Similarly, Orisa is also pretty great because of her eyes.
Regarding gameplay: Lucio. Nothing feels better than nailing the walljumps.
Regarding character: That's so difficult for me. Probably Roadhog because he is a badass?
Hmm it'd be difficult for me to choose 1 overall best hero.
Best personality: would be either Junkrat or Reaper, I find both of their voicelines hilarious during gameplay, and the thought of a grandpa in a spooky skeleton man costume makes me laugh.
Favourite gameplay: Lucio and Moira, I love how you can survive some insane situations with both of these characters
Best design: Zenyatta, I bought the game because I saw this robot monk
Character wise, I'd have to go with Moira. Whenever I hear her voicelines, I just love her snarky tone oozing with sarcasm and annoyance. It makes her feel so "real" as compared to the rivalry between Hanzo and Genji that just feels like acting or the edgyness of Reaper.
I do have a weakspot for D.va and Mei though. D.va because her obnoxiousness is so awful and off the scale that it makes her hilarious and Mei because fuwafuwa~
Gameplay wise I absolutely love Orisa. She can soak up loads of damage with her 900 HP shield. Crowd control with her Halt (goes great with D.va bombs and Mei's blizzard) be a literal barrier with her Fortify, and can do damage even at longer distances with her Fusion Driver.
And her Bongos are great to get some ult charge for your teammates.
A great team character IMHO.
Roadhog wins all three places.
Incredible burst and sustained damage and healing, instant kill combo every 8 seconds which is also a stun, interrupt and displace.
He likely wins any 1v1 and has plenty of chance to kill or escape even when outnumbered.
I think this could be taken a lot of ways.
In terms of practicality, which hero is the strongest.
Thats D.Va by a pretty huge margin
She is one of the few heroes in this game that isn't niche.
There is never a bad time to run D.Va and her kit is so open ended it offers a level of freedom that you don't usually see in this game.
But then this is probably overpowered considering the game's design.
Of course, you could also mean in terms of design.
In which I would have to give it to Torbjorn.
His turret is important, but not to the point where it overshadows the rest of him.
His gun is honestly just perfect, M1 clicks are useful for long range poking, his M2 shotgun blasts are probably some of the most satisfying meatshots there are in this game,
The ability to give everyone armor is (or was) a pretty cool mechanic that could really help your team deal with annoying dive heroes.
And his ultimate doesn't fully hold your hand unlike other high skill DPS hero's. I would much rather watch a Molten Core Torb go to down with insane M2 shots and get a teamwipe then watch a Tactical Visor Soldier.
I have no clue why people associate him with throwing, he is anything but.
In terms of character: Reaper
there isn't another option. He is the only character in the game with any semblance of decent lore. And it shows considering he has more appearances than Tracer in other media.
In terms of visual design, D.Va because Im biased.
Zenyatta.
A robot monk is pretty cool.
A robot monk who can pretty much fuck up anyone´s day (if you've pumped enough hours in him) by flinging balls at his enemies is not just cool, but very satisfying to play.
Pretty much a balanced character imo. Slow but deadly, discord orb is nice, healing orb doesn't heal too much, but can give your teammate just that bit extra to off someone and an ult that's useful in teamplay.
I really like Reinhardt as well, also satisfying to play and his design, voicelines and overall character are great.
In terms of Lore: Reaper no doubt about that.
Gameplay wise? Moira is just awesome. Lots fun to play, isn't annoying to fight, has solid counters and can switch between being a primary healer and secondary depending how she uses her orbs. Very damn good hero imo.
Without a doubt, Lúcio. I never get sick of sliding on walls while being able to speed up or heal an entire team. You feel useful no matter what. I usually go for the "can go invisible" characters: Spy in TF2, Zer0 in Borderlands 2. But Lúcio is still good enough for me to like him over someone like Sombra, and I love hacking everything in sight. So that's saying something.
By every worthwhile metric the correct answer is Doomfist
Probably Moira? Her damage and healing are pretty great, and with her fade form, if you have good awareness you can bail when things get bad pretty consistently. I've been learning her in comp and while she isn't the tankiest which means there's a lot of solo fights she wont win, I'd say she's one of the best heroes to have on a team.
