Advertising targeting children has been a thing since he 80's, man. We used to call them "Transformers" and "GI Joe".
How is this any different from having toy commercials that air during cartoons?
It's not the ads themselves, the problem is YouTube tracking data about kids without parental consent, and advertisers using that data to target ads.
It's not even necessarily like they're advertising TO KIDS so they buy their wares, it's so their PARENTS can buy it for them. That's what advertising for kids have pretty much always been.
https://www.youtube.com/yt/kids/ Unless they're being shown on here, this isn't a YouTube problem, this is a bad parenting problem. For years, Google has abdicated its responsibility to kids and families by disingenuously claiming YouTube -- a site rife with popular cartoons, nursery rhymes and toy ads -- is not for children under 13," This motherfucker's clearly never been to the wrong side of YouTube. YouTube as a whole is not for children.
According to the complaint, Google collects personal information about minors on YouTube, including location, unique device identifiers and mobile telephone numbers, and uses that to target advertisements to kids across the internet, apparently without their parents' consent. lmao It's literally IN the stuff you're supposed to read before you create an account, literally right at the top of their privacy policy https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57926/6d5f612d-7460-41c3-8889-3c76dd255624/image.png By creating an account you implicitly agree to these terms of service, including all the stuff they collect on you https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57926/0273560a-abee-4cd3-80c1-ed0e70d50d1f/image.png "IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY OF THESE TERMS, THE PRIVACY POLICY, OR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SERVICE"
