https://www.pcgamer.com/radical-heights-is-boss-keys-next-gamea-free-to-play-battle-royale-set-in-a-futuristic-80s-world/ That was fast. Fresh off LawBreakers' failed attempt to cash in on the Arena Class-based shooter, could we see a failed attempt at cashing in on the Battler Royale?
are they laundering money or something? they keep on throwing tons of money at the worst ideas
Imagine being so fucking awful at promoting your own games that one of the first things you willfully advertise is the goddamn premium currency
I wouldn't call it the worst idea, to be honest. Whenever a craze like this happens, like it did for RTS games, MMORPGs, MODERN MILITARY SHOOTERS, etc., it always presented pretty huge opportunity. Of course, it's also relatively high risk too that you'll just get lost in the pack. Thankfully, Cliffy B has a competent marketing team to increases the chances of success!

Imagine a free sample of energy drinks that immediately make you vomit painfully everywhere Basically the same thing here
Why are people so fucking delusional that they think they can hop on the train and replicate the success of another game? When the fuck has this ever worked out? Remember Overwatch? how many other hero shooters managed to replicate its success? What about survival crafting games? sure Rust is popular but how many others really found success what about minecraft clones what about Starcraft clones? not only did C&C fail to replicate its success, it killed the franchise when it already had its own fans What about CoD clones? how did copying CoD turn out for MoH? Nobody ever ended up making a Halo killer by copying its formula, Gears of War dethroned Halo by being a new experience, not by trying to be it. Stockholders and producers are fucking stupid. How do they get so much money while being so bad with it?
just a lil problem there buddy boy C&C tiberian dawn came out in 95. starcraft came out in 98
CliffyB is pretty much like a child star - he was at his high point as one of the lead devs of GoW and fell out of popularity. He should have just stayed retired. He is going into markets late that are already overly saturated. Worse part is, he fails to see that most of the battleroyale player base is divided between fortnite and pubg.
They also don't play all that similarly and CnC was pretty popular in its own right at the time too.
Gets released on the same day as an Overwatch event. Good job, Cliffy
https://twitter.com/IMBALDGUY/status/983369362416570369 It's doing nothing more than riding the current fad. Before it was cod clones, then it was survival games, then it was moba's, now we have battle royales. On top of THAT as well, it's running an 80's theme. It's as generic and common as meat, bread, and lettuce on a burger. This game is the antithesis of 'different'
unless of course you meant that ea tried to turn cnc into a clone of starcraft after it was already established in which case sorry i replied kneejerk
It's live on Steam but not just yet available to download. Radical Heights on Steam I also updated the OP with some more info about the game's "cash" gimmick.
No shit. It was the later games that came out after Generals that copied SC2. EA has a history of fucking up successful franchises by trying to make them something they're not.
I mean it does happen but it is rare. Look at the success Fortnite has by jumping on the battle royal bandwagon.
I absolutely despise how games like this pretend to go for a whacky 80s aesthetic and then include the most fucking boring and predictable weapons. Why bother with a consistent artstyle when you can outsource a bunch of cheap dragunov and AUG models and slap them into your game.
Yeah, I mean, you went to such lengths to create a new original universe, what stops you from creating new and original guns? To me it feels like they went safe to not scare away PUBG players
how is it that a game set in an ultra-stylized 80's setting can have duller lighting and colors than the new Call of Duty? what bizarro fucking world has Cliffy B taken us to?

Yeah but fortnite is, as far as I see it, a good game that does everything right I can't say I've played it, but everything I see tells me they do it well
Wow what a ballsy move that absolutely isn't going to work. The actual game looks pretty drab. Seemingly taking inspiration from Fortnite more than PUBG itself, the game doesn't look like it has enough unique enough from Fortnite to stand out on it's own, aside from a really annoying-looking dual currency system. At least if they took inspiration from the more grounded/realistic PUBG, they could claim that their unique flair comes from being a free, realistic battle royale shooter. Instead this just makes me feel like I'm looking at a significantly more annoying and less interesting version of Fortnite.
Tonedeaf!
ah yes, vomit of colors, grid textures, and money showers. The perfect combination for a genre meant for streaming. The low bitrate will make streams of the game look like pudding.
CliffyB should maybe try not making a game for a market that's already oversaturated with options.
Much like Lawbreakers, by the time this releases it'll already be too late.
They actually announced it releasing April 10th on Early Access (and it's free so they're gonna have a lot of feedback early I guess).
Divorced from context this is an unremarkable battle royale game but with the lawbreakers context it becomes hilarious how much this game is literally just a kneejerk reaction to the failure of lawbreakers. What? People hated our arena class shooter because it was bland and had no life compared to games like Overwatch? OK, BATTLE ROYALE THIS TIME! AND COLORS! ALL THE COLORS! NEON! THE 80'S!
Huh, well that's not as bad. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up in the market then.
Wow, it looks like it was put together in 2-3 months.
