Why is it that people always parrot stuff like this when it clearly isn't true. Whether it's home invasion, store robberies or muggings, people always come to the defense of the perpetrator. Just bewildering how anyone can stand and defend someone like that. Dude doesn't deserve a shrine, he was a scumbag for breaking into homes. If you want to remember them then go to the gravestone.

(Personally) It is unfortunate the man died Ideally he would have survived and faced trial for his crimes. However, the man knew very well the risks that might be involved and his death should be considered down entirely to his own stupidity. The man who ""murdered"" him should face no action against him. At the very most I imagine this could be considered involuntary manslaughter?

He isn't facing any charges. I believe involuntary manslaughter would only apply in case disproportionate force was involved in self defense, and no-one sane would call using someone's own weapon against them in a struggle disproportionate.

This is in London so it could just mean homeless, but generally would refer to Irish Travellers / Romani ("Gypsies") yeah. That being said even in the nicer parts of London if they do harass the poor OAP they'll probably end up with their caravans firebombed, they're not very popular.

Nah these aren't your common Gypsies, your average traveler is generally alright if just a bit off. These are Pikies, the lads who go up and toss up the contents of your skip onto the world, maybe break into your garage and if/when they don't find anything worth taking they bust your car windows for the trouble and shit in your garden. Didn't have em' too bad where I grew up, the gypsies who made their way around my hometown were generally pretty alright, but occasionally you'd get some right fucking cunts coming through causing trouble.

Travelers dont belong in modern society tbh, they used to be decent folk, traders and craftsmen but now they are just a mob living with agenda of: "Fuck everyone else but us"

The problem is a lot of traveller communities have developed a kind of mafia style mind set, where they foster ethnic crime families as seen in this article where they start threatening anyone who crosses one of their own very similar in style to how the Sicilian mafias work.

I learned of the distinction between travellers and gypsies today and honestly I'm really fond of it. Gypsies are just an ethnic group, yes a majority of them are travellers but even so I find it too harsh to write them all off.

"Gypsies" is a broadstroke pejorative term that doesn't designate anyone in particular and more of a broad lifestyle. The ethnic group you are thinking of are Romani people. There's occasionally an argument that crops up about how there's a difference between Romani and Gypsies and while it's true to an extent, the truth of the matter is that there's rarely such a clear distinction and as a result it's easy for shitty gypsies to gather unwarranted sympathy and for "actual" romani to get unwarranted flak. That's why Romani people should just settle down and abandon this trash lifestyle.

Don't know how it is over there but here something like a whole two-thirds of Romani are just normal people like everyone else, it's just a load of the remaining travelling people who tend to cause trouble. You're right though, it's better they realised that their lifestyle is completely unsustainable and settle.

Sad thing is that most groups of travellers/gypsies that cause trouble on a regular basis are aware of how important it is for their children to stay, so they completely deprive them of education. As soon as their kids are actually dragged into school and educated they rarely if ever want to go back, because their families treat them like dogshit.

I don't know much about Gypsies (there are some down in Florida but mostly all I heard about them was my mom complaining about them when she lived there, never actually came in contact with them) or whatever but it seems weird to call them "Travellers" because then it just sounds like you guys have a problem with people who don't stay in one place.
