Sensationalist title. Read the article..
The Dow rallied 400 points at the open Tuesday after Xi said in a speech that the Chinese government plans to "significantly lower" tariffs on imported cars. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq each climbed more than 1%.
Xi's speech "strengthens our base case that negotiation and de-escalation will likely be the endgame in current US-China trade frictions," Morgan Stanley economist Robin Xing wrote in a research note Tuesday.
Thank you... China?
Yea, just wait for the Trump fuckup that's inevitably going to come.
I can almost imagine it going the same way things went down when a co-worker talked about winning the lottery.
CW: "I'll give each of you $10,000."
Some guy: "$10,000 isn't a whole lot of money these days..."
CW: "In that case, you get nothing!"
Out of curiousity, how many US cars does China import?
Probably not many. When you have tariffs of like 25% to make them more expensive, people tend to buy them less.
It's kind of weird that the leader of an opposing superpower is doing more for the dow than the actual leader of the united states.
more proof that the stock market is run by myoptic morons, they have made 'comitments' and 'progress' to improve market access for years, maybe they eliminated 1 form since then but nothing has changed, nor do I expect their protectionist tarrifs on manufacturing to decrease enough to actually allow foreign imports
He's doing a solid job of humiliating Trump with it, that might be the entire reason.
ya but these are american traders, they've been lavishing him and the GOP with praise for their strong market leadership even though trump's actual direct actions have caused the whole problem
What kind of world do we live in where a man who just abolished term limits for himself makes himself look the bigger man than the US president?
Here comes the Xi Dynasty.
Bringing the Mandate of Heaven back motherfuckers...
China is a dictatorship of technicians, engineers and economists, whereas a lot of previous (and current) authoritarian regimes are theocratic dictatorships or warlordry. It's basically a country ruled by intellectuals rather than your next door right-wing Pinochet rip-off.
Xi's presidency has really been marked by three things: incredible economic policy, corruption crackdowns, and extreme censorship.
Pretty much the only thing stopping him from being universally liked in China is his censorship platform and how Xinjiang is being handled - but it's a 自治区 so it has a lot more problems going on with it than he can deal with on a federal level. Some of the most powerful people in the region have been put behind bars due to his corruption crackdowns so hopefully it gets better but I doubt it.
