Is there some way to be notified ahead of time that server/client updates are coming? I run a server, and it is frustrating to find out that nobody can access the server because of a seemingly randomly timed update, like say...on a Monday evening? Being able to plan ahead of time would be helpful. Even being notifed after the fact would help. I dont always close steam/Rust it is possible that I am able to access my server while others that have updated clients are not able, leaving me unaware of a problem.
Hey UberSquirrel, I imagine this is regarding the recent server update that required a full map wipe. This server update has been oncoming for quite some time with the release of the vehicle update. In fact, vehicles have been a topic of discussion within the devblogs for quite some time. Of course, this doesn't resolve your problem of timed updates, however many of these updates do not require server wipes. In fact, with an advanced prepared server, you can even setup timed alerts before the server is going to update so that everyone is aware, then the server will update automatically! Be sure to keep an eye on the devblog posts. Be sure to keep an eye on the
Hi, no i didnt have to wipe yesterday, just had to update server and reinstall oxide. Not particularly a big deal. The only problem is that this happens when im not expecting it (i.e., any other day besides 1st Thursday). So if Im not actually on the server 24x7 I may not know an update occurred, and then I lose players because they move on to a server that was actually updated. Is there an email list (or some other mechanism) that I can subscribe to so I can be alerted when updates occur outside of 1st Thursday? Or maybe a way to check Facepunch to check current version and I can write my own app to alert me when the verson changes? (Veteran programmer, but very new to Rust dev tools)
It seems that you do not understand what my probem is here. See the comment I added in the post below
I getcha mate I do, in terms of API there isn't much in the way of programmatically expecting an update before one is released. There are available plugins that check when there's been a new devblog post, however this might not be entirely reliable. There used to be a site called "whenisupdate.com" that would allow you to enable push notifications when rust updated, however that site is no longer in use. Another option would be to follow something like RustMonitor and allow push for when the update is released. Again, I understand that this is after the server has actually been updated, which is not what you want. You would like a concise schedule of every wipe outside of the norm of 1st Thursday of each month. A final option of being notified after the fact would be trying to get into the Rust Server Owner community on Slack. This doesn't answer your question in full and it certainly doesn't provide a solution, however my hands are tied in suggesting something outside of what you could just as easily Google like I am. I guess the best you can do is hope a dev responds ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There we go. Sorry, really new to being a Rust server admin, figured there must be somerthing. Thanks Bud!
I wish there was at least server update change logs or something posted somewhere, I know about the devblog but that doesn't say anything about these small updates that keep happening.
