I thought we already knew about this? Wasn't this in the headlines a month back or so?
I think that was June.
This was a second, separate attempt.
You know, despite the GOP assuring us it was fine and that they felt no need to draft legislation to protect Mueller from being fired.
Because the GOP don't actually care if Mueller is fired, they'll feign outrage while celebrating their strengthened grip on power.
That'll bite them in the ass if russia pushes a dem in 2020 if they really are just trying to raise chaos regardless of party.
Are we to assume at this point that trump has attempted at every possible opportunity to try and fire Mueller or Rosenstein? Thank god someone shot him down
I feel like we're gonna start getting these threads every couple of months now
Robert Mueller is personification of what special counsel is supposed to look like.
It's amazing how well they cast this entire troupe of characters. Jeff Sessions looking like the keebler elf, Steve Bannon looking like what happens when nuclear fire meets an icecap, Steve Miller looking AND sounding like Joseph Goebbeles.
Whoever came up with Steve Miller = Joseph Goebbeles resurected deserves an award.
I can hear the mass-waffling already.
Now: "So what if they did we do it all the time there's nothing wrong with that!"
After Russia pushes a Dem into office: "RUSSIA NEEDS TO STOP MEDDLING IN OUR ELECTIONS!"
Oh, it's even better. Russia doesn't even need to do anything.
If a Democrat beats Trump and does it through completely legitimate means with no Russian interference, Republicans have a prewritten script for attacking the results: Just claim the Russians meddled. What are the Democrats going to do, say "but they didn't this time"? Republicans can turn their playbook against them and the Democrats can only lose credibility by not letting them conduct an actual witch hunt using the exact same justifications and arguments that were used against Trump.
Russia could go ahead and meddle with shit to stir the pot even harder, but Putin doesn't have to lift a single finger in 2020 because the damage to American democracy has already been done. Faith in the democratic process has been badly shaken and it's going to take more than one election cycle for it to come back. The partisanship has accelerated to such a point that neither side wants to accept that the other side could possibly be acting in good faith.
