Scottish police ‘rescue’ metal fans mistaken for suicide pact me.. Emergency services mounted a full-scale rescue operation, including fire engines, ambulances and lifeboats, after a passerby thought a group of heavy metal fans out camping were involved in a suicide pact. The three men were enjoying beers around a camp fire on an island in Loch Leven, Perthshire on Sunday night, as their children slept in a tent, when they saw the lights from police boats rushing across the water towards them.
Better safe than sorry?
I don't blame them, it's better to have a goofy mistake like this instead of automatically assuming that they were just metal heads when they were actually planning the other one. It's kind of like with twitch streamers getting swatter and how it's not really possible for swat members to have a "safe" list because what if that twitch streamer actually did go genuinely apeshit that time and had a situation? It's like a reverse never cry wolf sort of thing.
the cops broke their car windows, interogated them and then they were forced to sleep in their car because they drank beer instead of arranging some kind of transport.
Yeah just fuck everything about these idiots, basically just commited legal vandalism.
What a waste of time and taxpayers money. No, not all threats are credible, people need to stop jumping at shadows.
a passerby thought how about interrogate this fool?
Scottish cops being idiots, imagine my surprise. They should have to pay for the car windows, there was no need to smash them.
There was literally no reason, it occupied crew that could be sent to the island, and the potential suicide note isn't gonna fucking go anywhere.
Let's put a scenario into play here and say there was a suicide pact at this event. Now consider how much they threw at a suicide pact involving three people: 20 emergency service vehicles 50 emergency service workers The group was ferried across to dry land, where they reported seeing more than 20 emergency service vehicles and about 50 people waiting for them. These 50 people and 20 emergency service vehicles were quite literally WAITING on the other end of the loch for them and the majority of them would have had no significance in rescuing the people (excluding ambulances and paramedics and any person with a boat if there was an attempt).
Emergency services must've been really fucking bored that day. Metal fans look rough around the edges but they're generally some of the nicest people around (anecdote).
My guess is the huge response is because the passerby will have also noted that there were children along. At that point, the amount of emergency services involved balloons massively. Basically, fuck the passerby more than anything.
That's how a lot of emergency services operate (At least here in my neck of the woods they do). The 'better safe than sorry' mentality is nearly bedpartners with knee-jerk reactions towards certain topics. They'll still investigate regardless of how insane the request is. One example is a kid threatening suicide because they didn't get mcdonalds. Police or crisis intervention team still have to investigate the scene. Sometimes obligated to bring police along if the CI doesn't know if there would be violence. It's interesting.
Yeah emergency services don't fuck around, I was being screened for suicidalism and repeatingly said "hey shit is tough right now but I dont wanna kill myself or hurt others" I barely got to finish that sentence before cops were waiting outside the door ready to frisk search and transport me to a psych ward where I spent most of a week.
I hope it was, at least, a nice stay. Was it voluntary?
involuntary, I had to beg and plead and remind them of human rights issues in secure psych wards to get admitted to an open psychiatric ward, where I met this dude with aspergers who smuggled weed in and played xbox all day, we played xbox, went on long walks on the shore of the fjord smoking weed and talking about random science and tech stuff and this was before Rick and Morty turned shit so we also watched rick and morty together.
Sucks you got placed on an involuntary. That shit sticks to you (unless they changed it to a voluntary, but Im unfamiliar with international mental health laws). From the sounds of it, you had some fun for the part of the week you were there.
And here I thought our cops were dumb fucks, humbling.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We were called regarding a concern for a group of people on Sunday at around 19.00. Inquiries were carried out, along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and they were all traced safe and well at around midnight.” Hah, that's such a typical police response. "We wanted to make sure they were okay so we broke their car windows, didn't pay for them and made them sleep in their cars, but hey at least now we know they weren't going to kill themselves." Also did they use their bare hands to break the windows? One of the guys said their hands were bleeding. Jesus fucking Christ lol.
