Hey all! I just created a new gamemode that should be launched into final tonight, but is currently in Beta. I was hoping to spread the word, to help people create maps for the game mode. There's no real trick to it, and the game mode is made to work with about any map in circulation, but the more I test maps out, the more I realize they either A) don't have enough props, or B) don't have enough spawn points/spawn points are too close together.
If you have made maps before, or are thinking of a new map to make, why not take this opportunity? Unfortunately, I just do not have the time with University, EMT School, and working on the game mode to map a series of maps for it.
Incentive:
If you make a map that plays well and gets a lot of reviews/ratings, I'll include it as a map with the actual game mode as an official game mode map.
Multi-purpose your map. Add a T Tester for TTT, or hiding spots for Prop Hunt. Make it universal!
Maps for this game mode start with "scav_<mapname>"
If you want any more details on the game mode, the Facepunch post is here: https://gmod.facepunch.com/f/gmodaddon/bsnvr/Scavenger-Hunter-A-violent-spin-of-the-popular-party-game/
The workshop file, and mapping instructions, can be located here: https://gmod.facepunch.com/f/gmodaddon/bsnvr/Scavenger-Hunter-A-violent-spin-of-the-popular-party-game/
Some of my stand-alone ports could be of interest to you, though I'm not sure if they're fit for the task. They were just released as general-purpose Garry's Mod maps, and being based on CSGO, the spawn points are usually grouped into 2 (CT and T). But they are great-looking and usually have a lot of props.
Steam Workshop
Well, they also usually have a large filesize, but hey that's the price of looking great and diverse.
Awesome job porting them! Do they use the same "info_player_(counter)terrorist" spawns?
Yes, but if a map really catches your eye and seems fine otherwise, I can fix that.
off topic because there isnt a report function, but i am kind of surprised the moderators arent noticing this is a bot after a month.
I have recently been creating maps using FAKEFACTORY's Cinematic Mod's textures, and their absolutely amazing, when I am done with a map I can upload it to the workshop and link you to it, the only problem is if FF would be happy with those textures being used for a gamemode, however it is a mod from 2013- and FF has since moved on to other things as the mod was a test so I hope it's fine. I am also interested in porting some maps from the mod so if I can get that working, I'll see what I can get over to the GMod workshop.
What's the gameplay itself like?
Right now it's just a sandbox style map where you wander around, there are a whole lot of physics props in it, such as crates and scatter props like cans, and things like that, the map has alot of grass meaning some props could be hidden in the grass (The prop isn't hidden when you look right down, as these are detail sprites) if you want them hidden. When the map is complete I will add many scattered spawn points, one thing I need to know is what types of props you want in the map.
No I meant the gameplay of the gamemode
It's just a general purpose Sandbox map, right now it's a map taking place along the coast, I can show you some images of the map if you want so you can judge it, though remember, this map only like 20% done right now (Very round estimate), so theres not too much to show just yet.
I can't find any info on the rules other than "violent spin on the classic party game". What is the game?
Do you collect stuff around the map?
