The best way I can describe it is an alternative Hip-Hop group that you will most likely hate the first time you listen to and won't have any interest continuing. I encourage anyone who is a little interested though to give it a chance, because Death Grips is a lot like a bitter Ale. The first time you drink an Ale the bitterness might be overwhelming and disgusting, but after a couple more the taste will eventually grow on you, and you will begin to crave it. That is what Death Grips is to me anyway. A good first album to listen to is Money Store, Bottomless Pit is also first listener friendly IMO.
I'd say they're an experimental cross-over, with inspiration ranging from hip-hop, punk, and electronic. Even though their music is hardcore and ridiculous, they're all really soft-spoken artsy guys. I think the goal is basically raw expression - like when you're sound angry you almost sound funny out of context. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqVDVVrJBSE
I was totally not hyped for this, what with the weird postings with Abela and the director of Shrek, but this is pulling me back in. Sounds like they might be going back into the deep end after taking a break from it with Bottomless Pit and (to a lesser extent) Steroids.
