A scene that shouldn't have worked, but really did.
Ugh. This scene could have been a lot better with a different song.
Needed some classic rock imo.
I have extremely mixed feelings about this scene.
It's a lot of fun, and it looks really pretty, but its just so... stupid (conceptually)
It kinda sums up the overall feeling of the Abrams Star Treks for me, flashy and fun but with not exactly a lot of substance when it comes to story or characters
This wasn't an Abrams movie though
worst part of the movie imo. i like this one the most of the three but this scene was just so stupid.
remember when Start Trek was great?
It's a bit odd/convenient that this song they happen to come across in the crashed ship (if i recall correctly) also happens to be the same song that Kirk listened to as a kid in the first movie.

I understand the urge to re-use this track because of the sentiment that Kirk might have for it, but like, it feels a bit too easy? Mostly cause Sabotage is a song that goes well with pretty much anything, and has in recent years seen a resurgence in usage after Paramount wrote them a big check and it became the forbidden fruit that was suddenly accessible, since MCA wrote in his will not to use their music in commercials. I feel like they could've dug deeper and maybe looked into the "classical" tastes of another character like Bones or Scotty, or done something other else than conveniently retread the first film.
Side note, it's always weirded me out that Beastie Boys are canon in the Star Trek universe since they have made several references to Star Trek
Regardless of music choice, the Franklin was more fun than the Enterprise was, simply because it was, simply because it wasn't an over designed Apple store.
This scene is a make it or break it deal for a lot of people.
When I heard the song come on, I cringed but then after a second it started to work and I thought it was a great scene
I thought it was a fun scene and it made me and the people I went to see it with have sensible chuckles so I don't see the harm.
They could at least have played Intergalactic instead of Sabotage.
99 Red Balloons would have been great too.
There has been weirder shit in star trek.
Maybe not as weird but one of my favs

My friend and I laughed to the point of tears in the theatre when this scene happened. Some of the stupidest garbage I've seen, but so ridiculous it became amazing. When the station broadcast the song in an explosive pulse I didn't think I would stop laughing for the rest of the movie.
Like, come on... the drone ships decide to go "wave" formation and then form the ACTUAL FUCKING SHAPE OF A WAVE CURLING IN ON ITSELF!
... and then the Enterprise "surfs" up the wave, blasting Beastie Boys and leaving a "wake" of exploding drone ships behind them.
There couldn't have been any bigger evidence of Justin Lin's involvement.
Overall, I thought he did a good job of directing the action scenes, and the movie looked nice and was generally fun to watch, but I never understood all the articles afterwards stating it was the best Trek movie since First Contact or that it was the most "trek" of the new movies. It felt the least Trek to me compared with the 2 Abrams movies, which were generally not bad, and realistically it was quite a garbo movie when put under any scrutiny. The CGI of the city was awesome though.
This was my favorite scene in the movie. I'm not even a big Star Trek fan and this became one of my favorite sci-fi films because of it.
A big Star Trek fan wouldn't enjoy this scene or any of the Abrams universe movies as anything but general action movie schlock. Star Trek movies have never been the same thing as Star Trek, it just doesn't translate well to the format.
Both of those songs reference Star Trek, might be a bit too meta. Plus they're hardly action songs.
The Goldfinger cover for 99 Red Balloons could have worked.
this concept is stupid has hell but for some reason the scene really worked imo!
alright STAR Trek! jeez sorry guys
Someone's been watching Mars Attacks
