It's not explained properly in the video but the truck in front was out of water and couldn't turn on the sprayers you're supposed to active during a burnover. The ute doesn't have that system and was trying to sheltered behind the truck.

You can't really outrun these fires. They can travel at upwards of 60mph/100kph.

Yeah, trying to outrun a fire in 100km/hr winds is a bad choice.

Not to mention the smoke cloud that precedes the flames. The visibility on the leading edge of the fire is nonexistent.
