'Teen Titans' TV Show Is Really Making Some Choices with the Costumes

The Teen Titans are coming to TV, again! Fans are highly anticipating the young superhero team’s jump from the animated world to live action in upcoming series Titans. We’ve gotten a look at Robin’s sleek and pretty badass costume in a photo released late last year. Apparently, though, for some of the other heroes, the series is making some interesting fashion choices.
On Wednesday, some images of the show’s other heroes hit the web, and their uniforms may have you raising your eyebrow. The images posted on Twitter featured Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy. Raven and Beast Boy appear in one image: She’s with her signature black clothing and blue hair, while he has green hair and a red-and-white jacket that fans of the character will recognize. Starfire, on the other hand, is mismatched with a bright pink curly wig, shimmering purple dress, and fur coat. The new project is clearly making some choices when it comes the heroes’ costumes.

Jesus fuck they look fucking awful, Starfire especially.
Looks like she is from a Porno. A shitty one.
I hate literally every choice made in making starfire look like this

They killed the show.
fap challenge accepted
You gotta be fucking kidding me
Not anymore they're not lmao
But why.
Good fucking luck man
because white people are bad and animation is expensive
Imgur assembled this comparison to make it clear how profoundly the production fucked up.

Why does she just look human with coloured hair?
Before we even get into the ridiculous outfit, why isn't she an alien?

Excuse me what in the fuck
She is an Alien....just not from another planet.
I'm sorry pls don't hurt me.
Is this actually a prank?
Raven looks pretty okay
Actually looks like her and BB switched ethnicities and also are in the cast of Empire Records.
:why:
Why dose she look like a prostitute wearing a 2 dollar dress made of the shittiest fabric that exists?
Literally everything but the boots look trashy as fuck.
Pretty sure the boots make her look like an extra from Dave Chappelle's Dwayneing Day skit.
How do you fuck up this bad at every opportunity.
my one hope for the costume at least is that this is "casual wear" and the actual costume looks like a proper superhero suit
Beast boy looks like he's in a 90's punk rock band.
I'm going to be the one to say it. I hate how they made the (presumably) only black girl on the show a fucking alien.
Don't get me wrong. Starfire is an awesome fucking character. And honestly, this doesn't seem to be a problem about race (after all, where's Cyborg in this?) and instead seems to be a problem with the studio having no fucking clue how to do this show any kind of justice. After all, they could've made it work. As others have pointed out, though, she doesn't look like an alien, but a prostitute, and it makes the whole situation... weird.
Do people not realize this is quite clearly not the costume?
So I've actually looked over the cast and most of these people are actually solid performers, with only real unknown being Raven, who was basically a macguffin in the only other major project she was in.
Why would you do this, like who the fuck greenlit this.
Anyone can come up with a stupid idea, but in this case more than one person in a row had to say "yes, do that, perfect."
...
"b-but it's similar because both black people and starfire feel out of place and marginalized!"
Cyborg's right are tied up with the movie.
If that was the case, then why do they all contain elements of the Characters outfits?
Beast Boy's Jacket, Starfire's Dress/Boots, Raven's Necklace.
I mean sure they aren't 1:1 (especially Starfire) but they are based on the actual outfits.
They are wearing Coats that aren't the outfits, but still even without the Coats they look like shit.
For two of those characers, yes that is the costume for several of the first episodes.
Why would you make a TV show about an iconic group of four people if one of the major characters is currently unavailable?
Even more so given that he was the only black character, which is even dumber because they felt the need to make one of the other characters black to compensate.
Congratulations, DC. You now have a show about an iconic lovable team where both the team and the individuals are completely segregate from the originals, ruining any chance of playing off of nostalgia. Good work.
I feel like right now, the best thing the studio could do is to post pictures of the actors in a scene wearing their official costumes. None of this "behind the scenes" bullshit, because that coat might actually just be Starfire's personal coat because it's cold. Actual, official costumes. Make them look awesome! These actors don't deserve to be shit on before they even have the chance to prove themselves, but unfortunately, it seems like the studio made the choice for them.
My problem is not that the actress is black. My problem is that it feels like the studio purposefully made her look terrible, not even a "this is our take on her character" but "we have no idea what we're doing" way, and that they'll use her to draw ire away from the studio. Instead of discussing the incompetence of the studio, any criticism is going to be waved away.
