• One glass of wine or pint of beer a day shortens your life - report

Ignoring the Government's recommended weekly alcohol limit of 14 units increases the risk of dying early, new research suggests. A major international study of almost 600,000 people found those drinking more than five 175ml glasses of wine or pints of beer each week were at greater risk of stroke, heart failure and fatal aneurysm. The report, published in The Lancet, found that a 40-year-old regularly drinking between 200g and 350g of alcohol per week - about 10 to 18 glasses of wine or pints of beer - had a lower life expectancy of around one to two years. Those exceeding 350g of alcohol every week could shed four to five years off their life. Although it concluded that alcohol did lower the risk of non-fatal heart attacks, it found that "on balance" there were no health benefits from drinking. One glass of wine or pint of beer a day shortens your life
Big woop. One or two more years of organ failure bed-shitting more isn't worth worrying about enjoying things too much.
Live fast and die young. That's why I put butter on my sandwiches instead of margarine.
but what about all the wineo moms that share post about having a glass of red every day, what about their feelings? they'll have no identity after this
dude first they say wine a day is good for health now it shaves off your life. just be specific and tell us exactly why, dont give pointless statistics.
We don't know why, all we have are statistics. When it comes to extremely broad long-term things like this, the mechanisms often aren't known. We know way less about our bodies than you might think.
Different studies show different things. More news at 11. The body is pretty complex, it's kinda hard to be specific and figure out the "why".
Unless it's asbestos, eat what you want (in moderation). I'd rather live a life full of good shit than try to extend the frailest part of it by a couple of years
Isn't there an old joke that goes like this? "A glass of red wine after dinner increases the chance of a stroke by 20%. Even more, if she drinks the whole bottle." Not really big news and isn't gonna stop people from drinking/enjoying themselves too.
Well, as long as you also eat one apple per day it should counter it.
Well shit, looks like i'll be dead by next Tuesday at this rate.
pls dun die we love you
I am pretty sure you won't die Doom, if your calculations are correct then you are a living breathing alcohol, and a living alcohol does not get sick from consuming more alcohol. btw can I have your baby face thingie? I'm jealous.
https://imgur.com/VEGe3Qt Best not to go further off-topic now tho. Didn't know the US has a higher recommended maximum than the UK, tho in the latter's case it doesn't seem to help much.
A glass per day does seem like a bit much, maybe having like a small gulp just to enjoy the taste is safer.
this is why I stick to grain alcohol and redbull
Worth it for the lads tbh
you get heavy drinkers that die at 50 and heavy drinkers that live up to 80 these sorts of statistics are almost always pointless
thankfully the only liquid I've ever consumed in my life is cow milk. delicious bone healing juice will make me invincible and immortal
mm gotta love all that fat going to your heart too
first they tell me staying up late will kill me early, now drinking will, too? what's next, smoking's going to give me cancer?
good
I'm taking a Nutritional Dietetics class at uni right now and we literally just talked about this. The professor also played this pretty funny video and it's pretty relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ua-WVg1SsA Nutrition/health recommendations change all the time throughout history as studies and research change.
Life is dangerous - it'll kill you
Looks like my pot noodle (cancer!!), beer (lifesteal) and cigarette (perfectly healthy) diet is spot on. I embrace the coming darkness.
That is super not how statistics work
Looks like I need to drink more
i mean unless you're an actual alcoholic and you have a serious drinking problem, i don't think this is really something most of us need to worry about. plus, if you're worried about your health, counteract it with other things. you can exercise and eat well and still stuff in your drinks. enjoy feeling fit and happy, while indulging every so often.
I thought statistics was just the plural of anecdote
Butter is healthier than margarine so die old for you.
