• whats requirements for a dedicated server to run a server

so we all know most gmod hosting services are sht because of the multiple servers hosted on the same sandbox srver my question is i wanna get a good vps/dedicated server what's the minimum requirements for both of them to run a server with 60+ players with no lag at all?
You actually only need very little depending on what kind of gamemode and addons you are running. What kind of gameserver are you gonna host?
a DarkRP server. the usual addons i guess. optimizing it for fps is no problem. but yh if u can tell me the requirements/specs that'd be awesome.
Strato has some really cheap VPS (windows/linux) plans (I have been using them for years now, no complaints). You can basically choose one of the two first packages : 2 CPU vCores 2 GB RAM 200 GB SSD/HDD Traffic unlimited 4 CPU vCores 4 GB RAM 400 GB SSD/HDD Traffic unlimited That first package is what I use to host my Teamspeak, TTT server, Melonbomber/Stranded server (they rotate) and a test server just fine. I have never hosted a darkRP server with "the usual addons" so just to be sure you might want to take the 2nd one. Once you have the VPS just connect via remote desktop (Windows) and you have all you need. A big con about Strato though is that their customer service is terrible so you kinda have to know what you are doing (dw its easy). Hope this helped
Fastest CPU core speed, servers aren't RAM hungry so any dedicated servers with a fast CPU should also have enough base RAM.
If your addons are poorly coded you're going to lag no matter what hardware you have.
i already said above ````` a DarkRP server. the usual addons i guess. optimizing it for fps is no problem. but yh if u can tell me the requirements/specs that'd be awesome.``` ``` optimizing it for fps is no problem``` please read thanks.
"Optimizing it for FPS is no problem" is what you might think but do you have any idea what you are talking about?
oh you don't know how to do it? np ill tell you of course by optimizing it. i meant fixing/removing any addons that affect FPS hugely . so you're welcome. looks like you're the one that has no idea
Probably don't be sassy while asking for help. You obviously don't know what you're talking about or you wouldn't have given us such an open ended question. Knowing the gamemode that you're hosting and how many players is irrelevant seeing as it's going to depend on the content you put on it, seeing as you know how to 'optimize for FPS' you should be good to go and I'm not sure why you're here asking for our help. In any case if you do feel like listening to some advice you want to look for CPU's with good single core performance. There are some better i7's and E3's for this.
i'm not being sassy i just thought he doesn't know. and i know what i'm doing and that fps depends on the content that's legit what i said in my reply above urs. there's no need to be sassy your self. this thread was mainly to know the minimum requirements for a vps/dedicated host to run a server without lag. i did say "minimum" for a reason. but either way i appreciate the information thanks anyway so single core faster speed are better then multi cores with less single core speed gotcha. and what's the minimum ram?
You can get 3GB to be safe, even that probably won't get entirely used.
i see well thank you!
what's the minimum ram?
is 2.4GHz speed enough? for the cpu
more on tickrate: it's basically just a measure of how many times the server updates in a second. it's useful for gamemodes that require fast reaction times such as TTT, but for things like RP, Stranded or Prophunt you can safely lower it to something like 33 or even 20
so you come in here. disagreeing with all the people that say the speed of cpu is the most important part and you haven't even answered my question which is if i wanted to know other information i would have asked. your post just helped me by 1% no wait 0%. sorry ain't trying to be rude but yeah. it still did not answer my quesiton
yes
