I have discovered the problem: Employees are underpaid, the service needs more government funding, and we should have a system in which USPS can act as a moving company. The last part is important because if USPS had an active network of moving trucks, the government could have programs which actively resettles skilled labor to where they are needed in the country. May not seem like much, but moving trucks tend to be the largest expense for moving around the country to find a new job, and is a reason so much of our skilled labor is stuck in dead-end jobs. Even if the USPS Moving Service wasn't fully dedicated to just moving people's personal items across country, it could be used for business related ventures, and would create a safety net for truckers in this country.
This makes me really nervous, knowing the way the Republican party likes to gut services and replace them with underperforming, overcharging privatized options for the sake of corporate welfare
congress won't eliminate their free postage
Underpaid? They get paid more than double the min wage here and get full benefits from the government, in fact its extremely hard to get a job there in my state unless you know a person that already has a job there.
They're paid nearly triple the minimum wage here ($16/hr. vs. $7.50/hr.), and again, full benefits, retirement plans, etc., but then again there's always the hazards of the rural Southwest like rattlesnakes and shit.
Isn't the US Post the only one why goes out of their way to deliver mail to more rural areas?
