President Trump issued a pardon Friday to Lewis “Scooter” Libby, offering forgiveness to a former chief of staff to Vice President Richard B. Cheney who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice related to the leak of a CIA officer’s identity. “I don’t know Mr. Libby,” Trump said in a statement, “but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.” In a statement explaining Trump’s action, the White House noted that in 2015, one of the key witnesses against Libby had recanted her testimony, among other factors. The White House also said that Libby’s past government service and his record since his conviction have been “similarly unblemished, and he continues to be held in high regard by his colleagues and peers.” Libby was convicted of four felonies in 2007 — for perjury before a grand jury, lying to FBI investigators and obstruction of justice during an investigation into the disclosure of the work of Valerie Plame Wilson, a former covert CIA agent and the wife of former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV. Libby was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000, but his sentence was commuted by then-President George W. Bush. Although spared prison time, Libby was not pardoned. I'm sure Trump pardoning a former Republican government official who lied to a special counsel is just a one-off and won't be relevant again in the future
we are a nation of laws
Fuck this "president"
I know the pardon is supposed to be the executive branch's check on the judicial system, but right now I really wish it just didn't exist.
Led by the "Law and Order Candidate".
We must maintain law and order at the highest level or we will cease to have a country, 100 percent. We will cease to have a country. I am the law and order candidate. We need to clean up the corruption in government, and Hillary Clinton will never be able to do it. She’s incompetent and has proven time and time again that she doesn’t have what it takes. Doesn’t have it.
https://twitter.com/Bencjacobs/status/984845910826979328?s=19 I hate it when you can't tell whether Trump is being corrupt or just 12
probably both
True, but we're not even at object permanence here. This is Trump not having fact permanence.
I feel like there may be a direct tie between these segments airing and him taking action, as in he(/his strategists) calling for the segments to air, so the actual action sounds like a positive thing when it happens
Didn't he send the National Guard to the border because of a segment on FOX News?
