That looks like a public road. Those fucktards need to go to a closed track.
not suprised it's on us27, everyone races on it down here
regardless of results, watching a V8 roaring will always be more satisfying to watch than seeing an electric car silently zooming away
The Demon is cool, but not every effective here. Whenever it launches, it just loses traction and skids for a few seconds. It CAN do a 1/4 mile in just a bit below 10 seconds, which is already faster than the P100D's (even heavily modified it does it in 10.40), but we're comparing apples to oranges here. If you want to make it fair, compare it to a 4wd car. Most 4wd cars are made for hard cornering, but with a bit of modification it'll beat a P100D by seconds.
Why would it be fair to compare an AWD car against a 4WD car?
Both are cool in their own ways, IMO. I've seen it so many times, but the silent movement of EVs blows my mind every time, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. They're like land UFOs
The Demon driver needs some more wheel time. At the very least ditch the stockers and do some burnouts right before the launch to heat those tires up if he didn't. Comparing an AWD car vs one that didn't even hook properly is about as indicative of reality as watching Fox news on immigration, and just as fair. Against the 720S, a car with over a hundred less horsepower but with a proper launch, the P100D gets roasted. https://youtu.be/oJYBy1GesDM
Oh sorry for accidentally calling an AWD car a 4WD, I was in a rush. The video you posted is pretty garbage though. It's like a drag race between a stock Opel Corsa and a Ferrari 458, except the Ferrari driver doesn't know he can shift gears. It doesn't represent the car's abilities at all.
It also overlooks the fact that the Tesla is useless on lengths past 1/4 mile due to limitations. Take it to 1/2 mile and the Tesla will lose to essentially everything due to both the electronic limiter to its top speed and the mechanical limitations of the motors themselves. Even unrestricted it'd struggle, electric motors can only spin so fast before they need gearing to improve performance. I don't really like videos like this because all it showcases is "wow electric motors have amazing torque and can launch really good!!", which isn't everything when it comes to drag.
The tesla has instant torque at about any "RPM", 2 more drive wheels and state of the art TCS/Launch Control but it peters out close to its top speed of 150ish. They definitely shine in short drags and highway pulls, but anywhere else it's just a fancy luxury car with a peculiar powertrain.
Generally dragtimes is pretty good at working with drivers to get good results from all sides.
Right, but that's not really the case here. The video is comparing the two cars in a challenge, while the Demon's driver doesn't even know how to drive it. The focus is on the cars, yet the difference is in the drivers. Just imagine Top Gear reviewing a Tesla Roadster and driving it around their track. The driver doesn't realize it's on some super-eco mode which removes all of it's power, and the car gets a very poor lap time. Does this represent the car in any way? This video is just like modern political propaganda. The Demon, from the factory, is an incredibly fast 1/4 mile monster. Yet here we can see the P100D beating it easily. So it must be even faster, right?
The demon never prepped his drag radials at the start of each dig, so he ended up spinning all the way through first and second with what sounds like less than 50% throttle at the end, this wasn't a very concise or well thought out test. If they did 20mph rolling starts or had the demon warm up his tires to get them nice and sticky it would be a lot closer of a race.
Sounds like he was working with the driver to help him figure out optimum launch revs, and do what he could for the tyres. As the guy in the video said, apparently it takes a lot for the Demon to reach the touted specs.
Not really you just need someone who, you know, knows the car. Like the Tesla driver presumably did about his.
To be fair, all the Tesla driver needed to do was hold down both pedals and let go of the brakes, no skill involved whatsoever. This is part of the reason why many find automatics and electric cars about as fun as applying stucco to walls. Anyone can be an elite "drag racer"
The Demon is an automatic as well. Not sure what else he could've done? It's an automatic, stock throughout, and using the launch control stuff. They tested various things trying to get it to launch better.
Most drag cars are Automatics.
I don't know, maybe try to keep traction? It doesn't have traction control, so that's something the driver needs to know. Which this guy clearly didn't.
