Hope this sets a precedent of some kind, or at least an example
Ranked choice is the same as preferential voting right? I can't imagine not using it when voting
Full decision here: http://www.courts.maine.gov/opinions_orders/supreme/lawcourt/2018/18me052.pdf This is absolutely amazing news. It didn't just happen either; it took a massive amount of work from hundreds of volunteers and a lot of courage from our elected reps and gubernatorial candidates. The senate threw everything they could at us to sabotage RCV, but they failed.
America had a previous high profile use of preferential voting in Burlington, Vermont. But they eventually scrapped it because everyone was confused about it, despite it working correctly.
This is finally ended Saga of bring RCV to Maine for now. Yea sadly, Because most them did either really buy that thought city is still used same voting system as rest of country or must be because of Vermont Progressive Party candidate Bob Kiss won twice while they want an Republican Party candidate Kurt Wright.
I'm from Maine and I've signed every single petition to try and finnally bring this here. The State Senate has fought it every single step of the way. Washington County Reps. can suck a fat cock and choke on it.
