Wow. Who here could ever imagine getting 75,000$ a month, while retired from your pension?
There seems to be an element of this that falls squarely on the voter and citizenry who refuse to pay higher taxes. If a tax raise is off the table, services will be cut. That's the only way it can work. This makes me wonder just how wide spread the degradation of infrastructure, schools, and even legal frameworks are across the US.
christ, 75k a year from a pension is pretty amazing
That's a month, bro.
That, and a lot of income sources for the government have been sold to private enterprise
these pensions seem so high that it would take an absurd raise in tax levels to get close to balancing out.
The US feels like a 2nd world country in a lot of places. Infrastructure in my experience is an afterthought.
I'm pretty sure the UK is currently going through a similar thing, all of our services are being cut year-on-year and yet the pension deficit increases year on year as people with gold plated pensions start cashing them in.
This is a fucking joke, right?
How can they justify paying people nearly 100 thousand dollars a year out of the pockets of the public?
That's 76k per month.
76k a year would be relatively manageable
The dude cited in the article gets $913,332/year in pensions.
Apparently they have more than 2,000 people that make more than $100,000/year in pensions.
Is there no way to retroactively cap/cut them off? Nobody needs 75k a month to survive, jfc.
Just move loads of students into their homes with them.
They'll eventually get sick and tired of it and the government can say 'hey we'll get rid of them if you take a smaller pension'
State could argue it serves the public good by retroactively capping excessive pensions. But they should offer a lump sum payout in my opinion in the short term to reduce the over all total payout. Pretty dumb to offer that lucrative of a pension.
I think there's a point you have to look at 75k being thrown out a month where you can stand your ground and say "yeah, no - we're not paying you that"
