people hanging out in starbucks is the norm; it's the image the company pushes you don't get kicked out of a starbucks using it as a waiting space to meet up with someone starbucks doesn't make it a barista's job to question people as to if they'd bought something yes it's normal to expect people to buy something, but that's just not how they operate; they have plenty of tables and invite people to stay as long as they want if they're not causing trouble in the hope that they plan on making a purchase tldr it's hard for me to believe there was no racist motivation

as someone who has spent a few hours inside of a starbucks without ordering anything and having not been kicked out, they need to be taught to enforce it unilaterally then. you can't just pick and choose who you kick out it also absolutely is not policy for starbucks to kick out customers who don't pay.

I keep seeing this assumption that Starbucks only kicks out black people. What is that coming from? We all know that white people being kicked out for the exact same reason would never get media attention, which seems to be the main source for your data. If it is the case that black people are kicked out WAY more than white people, then sure, make a generalized point about it, but you can't just start with that assumption based on a single anecdotal example in a single Starbucks location.

Most places do things to make people want to leave after a while. Like uncomfortable chairs, or AC on full blast directly above every table

did you even read my post? please show me where i said only black people get kicked out. What I was trying to get across was that if they're going to kick people out for capacity reasons at one starbucks, then they either need to enforce kicking people out on a time limit at ALL stores, or change policy so nobody can be asked to leave unless they're objectively being a nuisance I wasn't at all trying to imply that they only kick out black people, no idea where you're getting that from.

I work at Starbucks and I believe tthat the Store manager was just a dumbass. Like we get drug addicts at our store from the nearby motel that sit and do nothing, and everything is fine. The only time we ever ask someone to leave is if they are making a scene or causing other customers to be uncomfortable. My thoughts on the dude asking for free coffee for reparations has nothing to do with race its literally just them not wanting a annoying customer making a scene. Plus they gave him the cheapest coffee we get to make him happy. Starbucks pretty much is always just make the customer happy, and move on. I've gotten some dumb cunts that don't deserve any respect, but as a starbucks employee you just have to deal with it and suck it up. If anything I'm surprised it happened in Philly like that city is way more diverse than mine, and you never see that happen here.
