Because American society only sees prisons as a way of getting rid of “the bad people” without having to address institutionalized problems. As far as society is concerned, anyone who’s sent to prison doesn’t exist anymore.
Obviously there are some extreme cases where some people are too dangerous or deranged to be let out, but for anyone else who goes through that system, the chance of reform and reintegrating with society is almost zero.
Because of mainstream tv-culture, tantrums in politics and the fact that Americans born after 1950 all have underdeveloped emotional control and skewered social ideals in favor of vindictiveness and violence...

Yeah I really hate the prison culture in the US. Really enables horrible conditions.
It's important to remember that Shkreli faced little to no reprecussions for raising the price of a life saving medicine 5000x outside of public opinion; he was only brought to trial and convicted for fucking with the rich.
I don't see anyone trying to advocate violence against Skrelly. He's a smug asshole that deserves the prison sentence he received, and people are happy to see that justice was done.
I hope he comes out realizing the mistakes he made in abusing people around him for his own gain. I dont honestly think he deserves to be hurt or raped whatsoever, just to serve his time and/or prove himself changed.
