yeah this is old news. Neopets also pioneered the concept of 'immersive advertising', where rather than just having a pop-up ad for the latest Disney film there would be a flash game tie-in and it'd seamlessly be part of the site itself. Hell, there was even a game where you got paid the fake currency to sit and watch ads, which seems standard now what with mobile gaming but back then it was fairly novel.

the thought of that immersive advertising combined with scientology makes my skin crawl
I got hardcore into Neopets around 2001 or 2002 and played it on breaks in the campus library way more than I probably should have.
And then one day a Frosted Lucky Charms building popped up next to the Post Office in Neopia Central and everything suddenly felt way too weird and I started playing less and eventually forgot my password and the birthdate I'd given them after I lost control of the email address I used to register. rip
Some of the designs looked great especially with the different colours you could get, but tbh if there was a nice looking pet such as the snake, it was impossible to get. It's what made 12 year old me stop completely.

You'd be able to play 3 minigames a day, if I remember correctly, and that would allow you to raise currency to buy stuff for your pets, who could level up and stuff I think. I used to play it religiously and my laptop was so crap that I found the flash games super easy due to the lag.

I tried to log into my Neopets account a few months ago to find that it was actually still there, yet of course I didn't remember the password.
I loved this game, was terrible at it tho all my pets kept starving. Shame to hear they were associated with the Scientologists
