The guy on the left seems so giddy to have invoked a historical discussion between Lloyd and the game director, its almost contagious
Total War catering to full historical realism never usually goes well. The average consumer isn't bothered, it tends to sell less like with Attila (which was admittedly awesome) and the historical fans are never pleased no matter how hard CA try. TW is at it's best when it goes whole hog with the cheese like with Shogun 2, the Warhammers and the OG games. I don't think this game will do very well because of how hard it's trying to be at being grounded, like removing agents and making food so vital.
I love me some Lindybeige, would not be complaining if he was my history teacher. He can just about make anything interesting.
I really think TW lost a lot of cred with it's fanbase, me included, with the buggyness of Empire total war and the failed launch of Rome Total War. I know that's the main reason I wasn't interested in Attila. It almost seemed like a fixed version of Rome, just like Napoleon was a fixed version of Empire in a lot of ways.
Should be noted that while he's an enjoyable watch he has some very... disagreeable views and a heavy bias towards the English.
What buggyness?
Really? I can't even do a fort battle with how badly the AI treats walls, and half the time my cannons shoot off to the side of enemy units over and over.
I've got several thousand hours down in the game and I've not had any major or repetitive issue.
However I do generally avoid doing fort sieges.
It's more on defense. My troops generally just stand on the wall, refusing to shoot at anything.
I have yet to play a Total War game that wasn't buggy as shit when it comes to walls. It comes with the package.
Whenever I see him now, I remember that video he did comparing the MG42 with the Bren. I bet he still gets an earful every day over this.
He also claimed that imperial measurements were superior to metric. XD
the reason why attila did shit was because they hyped up Rome 2 to be this great big awesome game with a fuckload of content that was going to blow the shit out of Rome, what we ended up getting was this buggy ass piece of shit.

so yeah no shit attila selled worse, i haven't bought any TW game since rome 2 and plan to keep it that way
I don't take all of his videos seriously
Attila is honestly the best the series has been, save for the optimization issues. Lots of great campaign depth, interesting ways to play (Hordes are honestly really fun, and it can be fun to build up a huge empire before burning it all down) and a great DLC Campaign in the form of Age of Charlemagne. Cautiously looking forward to Thrones, the Warhammer games have lacked a lot of the depth from the historical titles, but that is partly because of the setting - but also because of some deliberate design choices (such as one wall sieges).
