• My Opinion On FarCry Primal

I was just playing the new FarCry and wasn't really feeling the same zest I got with Primal, I felt like Primal got everything right, no dumb over complicated story to get in the way just clear goals, upgrades that actually changed stuff, proper companions and the gameplay was so varied and satisfying. I'm just not getting the same feeling in this one as I did Primal but to my surprise I see no one talking about primal on here like it was basically a spin off I say Primal is number 1 FarCry game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6vk-QRqh80 This video is the best way to show what I mean, the focus on melee really made this game shine.
I never played Far Cry, and considering no one ever sees you coming or attacks you it feels like you're just running into villages full of innocent people and slaughtering them. Nice looking gameplay though.
I actually enjoyed Primal a lot more than I thought I would. It was familiar to recent Far Cry games but I found the setting and concept enjoyable enough to feel different. However, I think it is kind of ridiculous that they sold it as a full-priced standalone game (I waited until it went on sale pretty low, but still). They also missed a potentially fun opportunity where they could have had a DLC introducing a valley of dinosaurs and shit.
It certainly was around the same size of any other far cry, so why should it be treated like a spin off.
Primal was really weird and misguided, I thought. It was a fun enough game by itself, but it's the only Far Cry I haven't finished since 3. Idk, the melee system did not feel good to me. Gameplay with the bow and arrow+takedowns and companions were fun enough, sure, but the Far Cry engine simply wasn't designed for satisfying melee combat. That ruined Primal for me, within the first few minutes. That, and the realization that the map I was playing on was more-or-less the same as 4's. Not to directly contradict what you're saying, either, but I thought Far Cry 5 allowed a great deal of nimble and snappy movement. At least, your gameplay video there doesn't look too different to what running a well-known outpost looks like for me in 5. Except with, yknow, guns.

My feels on it: It seems cool. Could of been Blood Dragon 2. Suddenly seems less cool.....
