• North Korea: US troop withdrawal longer a prerequisite for our denuclearization

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/19/world/asia/north-korea-american-troops-withdrawal-trump.html Amazing that I might see the denuclearization and remotely live to see a unified korea in my lifetime... Or it could still be a ruse. Guess we'll find out.
Should the title say "no longer"
My father is already praising Trump for this.
Do we really know how much involvement Trump had in the matter? Maybe he scared KJU so much with his willingness to risk nukes that he indirectly had a part to play? ^^
Yeah the guy who was insulting Kim and threatening war is totally the man responsible for all this.
It might be due to roundabout reasons. For example; China, seeing that the USA's global presence and power is declining, is less inclined to prop up NK as much as it has. With China supporting the regime less and less, Kim Jong-Un is willing to be more diplomatic, especially as NK's previously Western-backed neighbours are also moving towards relying less on the US.
Whatever the causes, I don't see any other reason for NK to do this other than losing support from China
“Ah so they’re losing support from China... thanks to Trump!” -My Dad
North Korea figured out the best way to destroy the US was to do something that would legitimize trump. Well played. Well played.
Oh God, don't even joke about that.
this would be the one and only good thing he's done if it works out. I feel it's a distraction or a ruse though.
I don't even know if I am joking.
I can already see it now in textbooks. Donald J Trump, 45th president of the United States, best known for his work in liberating North Korea
My grandson is wise comrades
now North Korea has nuclear weapons, they are ready to talk and to invest in their country (with their ideological policies, of course) and relationships knowing that it won't be destroyed by a possible intervention.
I fucking hate this reality. I mean, sure, Korean Unification, I never thought I would see it within my lifetime, but holy god, this cannot be his legacy.
Unifying the Koreas would be the only thing that could get Trump re-elected
But this is about them giving up their nuclear weapons without even getting one of their biggest prior complaints. It literally flies in the face of what you're saying here.
I see no signs unification will ever be a thing, at least not in the forseeable future. Agreeing to stop antagonizing your neighbours is not the same as agreeing to cede your country and government to said neighbours.
I've always figured I'd see it, if not by pen then by sword.
they won't give them up, they'll hang on to them and create a big show of denuclearization
They'll be required to have inspectors crawling their asses. They're going to have a multitude of organization that they will have to let check every possible hiding spot. They're not going to get to just say it and everyone take their word for it.
Fuck, that would be the worst job ever. "Alright, you need to work as hard as you can to find this thing. Also, if you find it, you'll probably get killed. Good luck!"
While this might be true, I have a feeling Kim's first visit to Beijing might have had something to do with it. I could bet he was 'summoned' there and threatened to stop fucking with RoK and the US. Thus the secret meeting with US officials and making so many concessions they have historically held on to so dearly. I think that when Kim brought up to Xi his fear of US intervention if he gave up nukes might have been put to rest, perhaps he was promised the offer of a Defense treaty if he settled down? I feel like that was his top worry if he didn't keep up the 'Build nukes and threaten America Rhetoric'. But that's just my guess. To clarify, yes it should but as I said in the op 'no' was accidentally removed when I was adding onto the title and mods still can edit titles I'm afraid.
