The two Koreas opened a hotline between their leaders Friday, Seoul's presidential office said, a week before a summit between North Korea's Kim Jong Un and the South's President Moon Jae-in in the Demilitarized Zone. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/north-south-korea-open-hotline-between-leaders-seoul-080718600.html
What the fuck happened to get nk to stop shitting its diaper
Honestly, a theory I've had is that Kim knows he will probably wind up dead if he kept doing things the shitty way. As evil as he is don't think he's insane, and I think he's very aware of his situation.
I think its that the Kim dynasty is basically bankrupt, made worse that China is pulling its support for NK. Of course Trump is going to take all of the credit.
This 180 is enough to give me pause. Not necessarily in an ominous way, but not quite in an optimistic way either... just... pause in general, if that makes sense. What an interesting turn of events.
"So what are you wearing?"
Maybe someone put the fear of death in the shithead at the forefront. "Your only choice is take an olive branch and back down, otherwise we'll burn everything just to insure you're wiped out."
I think that maybe they realized that they have a better chance of holding on to their regime if they cooperate and open up more with the west like China is. China showed the world that no one cares if you grant your President a permanent seat and slowly take over the sea as long as you don't do it with too much hostility. In today's world nobody really wants to go to war, so no one's going to bomb a peaceful NK anymore than they'd be willing to bomb a hostile NK, so it would make more economic sense to be peaceful and open channels with the West, in order to get some trade flowing in from China and Russia to support their country again. With a de-escalated situation in NK, no one will care that Kim is still in power or that he brutalizes his people except for North Koreans. On the flip side, they probably realize that they cannot go on at their current pace because they're isolating themselves more and more, in a world that's more and more connected. One day their people will rebel and the regime will fall. It makes more economic sense for them to be a friendly dictatorship than one pretending to be on the brink of war.
They want something from the West or China. Probably food or oil, going by how this has previously gone. Nk is in an endless cycle of "do thing that pisses off the West", then claim remorse before begging for something. When the begging stops working they go back to missile and nuclear tests before showing "remorse" again. Rinse and repeat.
Even though it might be a little sketchy, any peaceful progress is gonna be good for humanity. The chance of seeing something historical like the 2 koreas coming back together is going to be incredible
What a fantastic idea, perhaps we can persuade them of the greatness of juche:).
Rayhalo is that you
trump being an unstable wildcard probably has contributed. before, they knew they could posture and shout and get away with it but who the fuck knows what trump would be willing to do in response.
They got their nukes, and the missiles to send them where they want. Now that they have leverage they don't have to be dreading an sudden invasion. I am convinced that this was Kim jong uns idea to begin with. As he didn't waste time to make this reality. I hope that his plans include helping his people out of starvation and deep poverty. Peace is a good start.
