While I understand how awful and tragic this situation must be for the parents I lost sympathy when they turned the hospital into the villains and starting inciting people to protest outside and abuse staff and patients.
They've gone through pretty much every court in the UK and the EU and all have confirmed "we're sorry but your child has suffered catastrophic brain degradation and it would be best to let them pass" and they just take it to another court to get told the same thing. I understand that parents would often do anything for their children, but there's no argument here, by most standards the child died months ago.
Honestly from what I've read I don't even think the kid can feel pain at this point
They keep using the term semi vegetative state so there's some brain activity but nothing approaching consciousness.
that doesn't really mean much when his condition will only ever get worse
Well he's been in this state for months so he's gone from bad to "50% total brain degradation" so yeah. All their doing at the moment is trying to fly him to Rome so he can be hooked up to more machines until even those can't keep him alive.
Makes me wonder what the real endgame of that is. Are they going to be visiting him into their fifties, when their 20-year-old, barely-formed, atrophied son is laying there still barely-alive? Are they going to shuffle into his room in their seventies? Are they really going to let this consume their entire lives?
Its gone too far for them to back down now, if they genuinely cared about his well being they would have ended this months ago but since then they've had every medical and legal authority in Europe tell them their child has no quality of life and will never unfortunately get better.
But fuck that the doktors r evil n they want to kill our healthy baby make sure u all protest n honk ur horns at the hospital so the other kids cnt sleep
It's just a shite situation. I can totally see why the parents are adamant they want their kid to stay "alive" though, if it was my kid I'd probably think the same. They're in denial and hoping he'll recover when there's just no chance.
Just in time seeing as the protesters tried to storm the hospital earlier and are blocking the roads.
Kids dead but if the Italians want to pay for years of life support let them.
When I opened the thread I thought it was about the right to let the child die with dignity. I understand the parents are upset but this kid is not getting better. Reality needs to take precedence at some point.
And if he dies on the way over there, thanks to his condition I'm sure Alder Hey will get the blame anyway.

This is true.
Imagine trying to storm a fucking hospital because of this. It takes a special kind of moron.
Like what even is their plan, run in and tear him off the ventilators and run off with him? Its beyond stupid and this has gone on for too long.
If you block access to a hospital intentionally you should be facing a minimum of 3 years in prison even if you don't block any emergency victims from treatment.
They've turned off his life support, police are patrolling around and within the hospital

Barrister Paul Diamond, who represents Alfie's parents, will argue it
cannot be in the toddler's best interests to be left to die in Alder
Hey Children's Hospital and he should be allowed to travel to Italy
where doctors are ready to care for him.
This is fucking stupid. He is genuinely already effectively dead, and they want to risk taking him across the Channel, presumably via fucking airplane, to Italy, saying it will cure him? He'll probably die during the journey and they'll blame the hospital.
At this point, they are just keeping basically a circulating corpse around. I wonder if its a mix of grief and feeling like you've gone too deep into it.
This is probably one of, if not the worst case of denial in history.
Since this thread was posted, the ECHR has refused to intervene in the case, and another legal challenge by the parents has just failed:

What was the point in storming the hospital?
Were they gonna try and rip him from the bed or something and try to get him to Italy?
Something else completly stupid?
I am confused
They were obviously defending their roights to storm a hospital and save that lil boy, broaaagh.
