I don't think this will help simmer any anti-monarchy sentiments in both the UK and the commonwealth at all, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how his ascension is received.
Liz is already the longest reigning British monarch by a considerable margin at 66 years. At the age of 92 I don't know why she doesn't just call it a day.
Elizabeth II is only the 39th longest-ruling monarch, and she's the only one still alive on the Wikipedia list. The longest ruling was Sobhuza II of Swaziland/now eSwatini, who ruled for 82 and 2/3 years.
hes not going to become king of the UK, hes just the head of the commonwealth states, the queen stays acting monarch until her death.
then does he become the king?
Lizzy is eternal. We do not speak of these things.
if she dies then yeah
I guess having a racist twat in charge of the remnants of one of the largest imperialist empires in history is fitting
she doesn't want to drop the monarchy on anyone else from what I've read and heard, she is content to take it to her deathbed
Doesn't Charles not even want to be king? Yeah think I knew this wasn't about the crown, still sad Lizzy won't be able to reach the record for longest rule (82 years jesus)
Makes sense. It was dropped on her father and also on her. But to me this monarchy-style appointment is an indication that there's no private intention between Charles and the Queen for him to abdicate even upon her death, despite speculation to the contrary. A shame, in some ways. A young and vibrant monarch would have done a lot for fighting the Republican noise.
