Maybe being a racist, white nationalist scumbag isn’t a sustainable as it seems 🤔
Glad they’re finally going the way of the dinosaur.
when your entire movement is based on false information and fear mongering, it tends to fall apart.
They'll have difficulty with organizing themselves but we definitely won't have a shortage of racist idiots in the coming years.
peak alt-right hasn't been reached yet!
I've always hated the term 'alt-right'. It's too soft a label for the degeneracy that is ethno-nationalism.
The dynamic between co-founders Matt Parrott and Matthew Heimbach has always been unconventional. Heimbach is married to Parrott’s stepdaughter from a former marriage, and the two men lived in neighboring trailers, where they promoted traditional gender roles in addition to white-supremacist beliefs.
But according to a police report obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Heimbach began sleeping with Parrott’s wife. In early March, the two told Parrott and Heimbach’s wife that the three-month affair was over, but Parrott didn’t believe it, so he concocted a plan to catch them. Heimbach and Parrott’s wife fell for it while Parrott was outside, standing atop a box, looking in through a window. Then the box broke, and, his cover presumably blown, Parrott went to confront Heimbach, who allegedly choked him. Parrott lost consciousness, then fled to a Walmart, where he called police, who reported that Heimbach later violently grabbed his wife’s face.
That sounds about right.
What more could you expect from a title they gave themselves?
I'm sure that 4chan will stay just as terrible, though.
true alt right has never been tried
It's a bit of a soft term, but it's kinda useful to differentiate them from the other neo-reactionaries. Almost all of them are ethno-nationalists, but there are groups (sects? cults? I dunno) of them that are also monarchists, or anarchists, or religious fundamentalists. They've all got their own names, but as they're all objectively more batshit insane than a bunch of racist capitalists they go unheard of.
Neo-reaction is a generally quite unpleasant movement. It's somewhat upsetting a splinter of them has managed to get out of their shitty corner of the Internet and into the publics view.
yeah, I'm glad nazis died out in 1945 too.
I dunno, man. If you get rid of /pol/, 4chan isn't really that bad.
4chan is completely fine. I'd say "if you ignore /pol/" but /pol/ literally only exists as a containment board at this point and it isn't really a part of the rest of the culture of the website at all.
been watching this stuff through mister metokurs twitter account
baked alaska just had some weird ass controversy where he had a doxxing discord where they targeted people, a big youtube streamer got into a yelling fight with their co-host, the alt-right side has been going nuts lately internet wise
been goin on for months now and is a fun popcorn show
Nah, as someone who visits 4chan for /vg/, /pol/ has failed as a containment board in the last year or two, because they definitely leak a lot more than they used to into the other boards.
Peak would imply it hit a high point. Its been down hill since the beginning.
The unfortunate news is that there's no indication it has peaked or reason to believe it's going away. Many extremist movements in history are sectarian, it doesn't signal anything, really. That's especially the case for an internet phenomenon, this article is basically an excuse to shore up anxieties by talking about irrelevant figures. That's to be expected since mainstream media has been failing in specialized coverage of this issue.
It's also misleading. The number of Americans that "support the alt right" may be three percent, but the number who want to preserve America's european heritage is somewhere around 31% according to a poll. That number is even higher among white working class people. I assume if it was really around 3% we wouldn't be hearing from the left anymore about this.
http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/new-poll-some-americans-express-troubling-racial-attitudes-even-as-majority-oppose-white-supremacists/?upm_export=print
And of course there's the possibility the younger generation is more right wing than millenials
I can't tell the difference between alt right and neo nazi.
Branding.
And when your movement is funded by billionare backers who no longer need it as a vehicle to get republicans in office, it tends to wither and die, especially when the anti-intellectualism has made even their network of think tanks and bought for research useless.

I've heard of this incident referred to as "The night of the wrong wives".
Three-fifths (57%) said that Confederate monuments should remain in public spaces, while a quarter (26%) said they should be removed.
Even the statistics are racist.
It leaks for sure, I'm just saying that /pol/ isn't really a part of 4chan's culture. Literally every board except for /b/ and /r9k/ tell them to fuck off every time they show up.
The Nazis, Spanish, USSR, PRC, Khmer rouge (arguably), North Koreans, South Koreans (they have some "touchy" opinions on their relationship with Japan), The West during the entire colonial era, The Zulu, The Boers, and the peasant crusaders all off the top of my head would like to have a word with you.
Somehow that a part of this movement started with trailer trash doesn't really surprise me.
A bunch of monuments are up in places that had barely anything to do with the civil war though
Containment boards don't work as a rule of law so how is it okay?
Containment boards don't work. They don't contain, they breed. Pol's pretty much the signature of 4chan now even if the other boards despise it.
It's not. Shitty policies don't go away on 4chan, though. Moot didn't realize his mistakes until it was too late and the current owner is a lazy, incompetent sleazebag. It's up to the individual boards to pick up the slack and the ones that do it well generally recognize what 4chan shouldn't be doing.
