Isn't this guy meant to be kinda shady? I'm out the loop but everytime he's in the news it's usually him being a little shitty.
He rewrote the entire constitution, changed the electoral system, weakened the courts, put allies in charge of the media, gave out crippling fines to opposition parties, and more
IIRC they also loopholed things a bit so they could use government funds for their campaign posters.
But otherwise, he's a decent chap. The shitty thing about the Hungarian election is that they do what the UK does and split the left vote a fair amount, although the 2nd party in the last election, if I recall correctly, was even more right wing than this government, so Hungary seems pretty fucked for left wing choices.
Considering the fact that only 18% percent of the people voted for all the left-wing parties combined, I'd say there is really not that much demand. We have two pretty decent parties on the center, along with the fact that the in the economical sense, right wing parties have quite a few traditionally left wing policies and vice versa.
Speaking of the 2nd largest party (Jobbik), they changed a lot in the past 5 or so years.
The party broke with their radical image and went full-on center-right. And it wasn't just about words (although they profusely apologized for their old rhetoric featuring anti-semitism, homophobia etc.), but they actually purged the radical members too from the party. That takes balls, especially when your most loyal voterbase is made up of such radicals (as one of their politicians eloquently put it once, "a Hanukkah greeting has cost us 5 percent").
In the end this didn't really work out for them (they gained a lot of people but their original voterbase considered this whole move treason and left), which is a shame really.
Do you guys have universal healthcare?
Sure, why?
I was simply curious about the left wing policies you had.
