Classic Xi, always with the citizens best interests in mind. What a guy.
Damn that is crazy. It is so strange, over the past few years I had begun to get the impression China was progressing and at least changing its ways a bit for the better, but in just the past couple of months any semblance of that feeling is now completely gone.
I mean, he is not wrong, it just it leads to a really fucked up kind of stability.
Seeing my own country following chinese example is depressing.
China is modernising, not progressing. They never really were. Every good thing they do is simply so they can stay competitive and not have their economy fall behind other countries.
Technological progression is not the same as social progression.
even if its not this generation, I still get the impression from those that I see over in the states that they wish their society was more open and less censored like the west, but then what political avenues does the average chinese person have when the government is run by the rich for the rich?
I mean, looking at what happened in the US, he's kinda got a point.
Reminds me that I need to uninstall WeChat ASAP.
If it's on your phone and it's rooted, you can just revoke its permissions for just about everything.
You should do that to the FB app too btw - it's the single most aggressive permission asker I've seen so far.
This is what the social credit system is meant to "solve".
He isn't lying, but he's also a massive dickhead and need to start easing the country towards an open and free society like everyone deserves to have.
The cynic in me says that the most successful countries in the future will be the ones that control/cesnsor the internet. Simply because Western Civilization is being disrupted by social media
He does but he doesn't. Sure it's more stable because you eliminate outside factors. It's also stable because you get to control what people see. It's a form of stability that comes at the cost of freedom.
App Ops? Haven't heard that name in years, it was removed because it was made obsolete by the new granular permissions system in 2015
And that's why China has to import all their entertainment. Freedom of speech is paramount to creating great art. If you're not speaking honestly to some part of the human experience no one is going to care.
Somewhat but not really. Apps notice when you deny them with the new system, and the FB app still uses the old one and requests all permission when you install it iirc.
With App Ops, the apps in question optionally just get garbage data and you can block 'safe' permission like running in the background or reading your clipboard too.
How is this any different compared to book burning? The internet is a massive threat to political interests.
That's cause he kept his mouth shut until he was voted Most Equal Amongst Equals For Life, now hes' free to say what he actually wants, which is what any paranoiac hyper leftist wants, everyone smiling and getting along all the time, no matter what, or else there will be consequences.
Exactly they are playing catchup at the moment, but they are now beginning to implement policies that will hinder their own innovation, and once again they will be forced to play catch up in the future. China likes to move in and out of isolationist/narrowminded and open/innovative cycles.
