I have to criticise their black hole bomb idea. Though I've no astrophysicist, I would imagine the bomb would be as effective as your mirror is at reflecting energy. You could in theory harvest the energy until you created a supernova, but I would imagine the mirror would disintegrate long before that. Your bomb would be limited by the efficiency of reflection and its heat capacity.
I love how simple he makes it sound: "Eh, you just need a big mirror to envelope the black hole. No big."
I feel like since they were assuming the mirror was durable enough to harvest massive amounts of energy, it would, as a result, have the ability to create this supernova as well.
Not so sure I'd consider it unattainable for humanity as a species, more like for our civilization at this moment in time. We already understand enough to develop some pretty fucking impressive technology, especially in face of the relatively extremely tiny amount of time we've even existed. A small example being that we're able to communicate with basically anyone on the entire planet in real time, or that we're even able to figure this shit out
Huge issue for us advancing is basically ourselves. Even though we got the wealth, knowledge, and technology to advance quickly. Certain groups or individuals would rather halt technological progress/innovation cause it would damage their wealth/income. Even though the advancements would benefit humanity as a whole. tl;dr: certain humans being dicks stops us from having fun.
Assuming we survive it all, we'll have had to advanced far more than we have within the past century by a huge margin, just to have survived for that long by the time we reach the end of the universe, we'll have had the time to augment ourselves using not only flawless genetic engineering but also integrate technology into ourselves that's far beyond anything we currently have in the wildest science fiction
can't wait to recreationally drop into the ergosphere
